On my mom’s last night of her visit, she taught Jake how to make pasta. Dinner was sooo delicious. My mom made two sauces for the pasta. One was a pesto using almonds (the only nuts I had in the house) and the other was a brown butter sauce to mix with fresh tomatoes, green onions, and I forget what else. My taste buds are spoiled now. There is a big difference between fresh, homemade pasta and dried pasta, or even store bought fresh pasta. We will be doing this again!

Last year, Jake made spaghetti on Wednesday evenings before AWANA. We didn’t attend AWANA this year, but we still have spaghetti on Wednesday nights. This year, it’s Lydia’s turn to learn how. Brother took the photo, hence the finger shadow.

Pumpkins and Gingerbread Houses in May. Actually, I had pumpkins in May!!! Yes, I’m not really good at identifying seedlings.

So…when the pumpkin leaves sprouted from my old compost area (yes, nice and fertile soil), I waited to see we would be growing. I couldn’t remember what “squash-like” seeds I had left in the compost. (From the leaves, I did know it was some type of squash.) :0) I hoped it was zucchini or one of my favorites, yellow crooked neck squash. But, the leaves started growing REALLY big, and well, I just left it after finding out I was going to have “pumpkins”. (And for the record, the last time we had pumpkins was…last fall.)

After a lot of praying and waiting on the Lord, my husband finally made the decision to continue teaching the older 3 year olds in our church. (We sure did miss them last Sunday when we took a “break”.) So, last weekend I began to browse through my preschool craft books and ran across one using pumpkin seeds. “Great!”, I thought, “I have pumpkin seeds…or will.” :0)

My dear children were hoping for pumpkin pie. Really…in June??!! I explained to them that I didn’t want to water the pumpkins (once I found out they were pumpkins and not zucchini), so they would have to survive from the rain God sent. Well, I got 5 pumpkins from the main vine. One medium sized one last week. Here are the 4 little pumpkins I scooped out tonight just to prove that this really did happen…in June. (wink)

Little pumpkins
Pumpkin seeds

In addition to the main vine from which these pumpkins grew, there were 3 new vines sprouting that I thought might make it ’till the fall, if I gave them proper care. But, DH got to the dying main vine before I did, and pulled it out, along with the seedlings. (sad face) He apologized and AFTER explaining my intentions with the destroyed seedlings, I forgave him. That’s OK. I’ll take some of these seeds along with some new packaged ones I have and plant them before we leave for France, in a location covered by the drip irrigation system. :0)

After receiving a WONDERFUL Gingerbread Nativity Scene Kit from a friend for Christmas, I thought I would invite a couple of friends over to complete this kit, or give it away. Neither happened. What a super special treat for the kids…to assemble a gingerbread house in June! I will take the criticism about procrastinating, especially when I see my children bursting forth with excitement (read: running in circles like excited little puppies) over the idea of putting a gingerbread house in May. Besides, I can just imagine them reminiscing as adults around the dinner table…”Remember when mom let us put that gingerbread house together…in the summer”…I interject here, “Technically, is was late spring.”…”Uh huh…and we kept it on the piano for like 2 weeks…and actually got to eat 1-3 pieces each day”…Another one chimes in, “Yea, she’s the coolest mom ever.” (hehe) Seriously though, I need to get it together.

I don’t know why I can’t post thumbnails of the pics.

Here’s some old botany pics:

My mom just left this morning after visiting us for 5 days. It’s always a joy to have her stay with us. She fills our home with creativity and joy. I may be able to add some pics soon. I’m still learning how to use a gently used camera that was given to us. The pics I thought I took were actually short video clips. Comically, my family members are posing still in each of the 5 second video clips because they (and I) thought I was shooting still images. Oh well, hopefully my mom will email me some of her pics when she gets a chance.

DH and I went on a date last night…to see Prince Caspian…since Expelled wasn’t available in our area locally. We didn’t have high expectations to begin with, but we were even more disappointed after seeing it, considering all the raves from Christian leaders. First of all, it should be rated PG-13! It is very violent and even “darker” than “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”. When I think of “The Chronicles of Narnia” (Hollywood versions), they really remind me of the magic, sorcery, and witchcraft in the Harry Potter movies. (I’ve only seen Harry Potter 1 and part of 2, though.) A worship leader took his 8 year daughter and 3 year old son to see it and highly recommended it, though admitted it was not appropriate for young children. My children would have had nightmares! And to top it off, there’s a very inappropriate scene at the end…a kiss between Susan and Prince Caspian…who will supposedly never see each other again. Ugghhh! It would have been better for her to stay in Narnia and marry him! For a detailed review (with some spoiler content) go here.

I’ve been busy, busy. I started working on next year’s curriculum. You can view the outline on my side bar under ‘Pages’, titled ‘Curriculum Choices for 2008-2009′.

McCain slams Bush on the Abortion Platform.

In 2000, McCain Wanted Exceptions in Platform for Rape, Incest, Mother’s Life. Old news, but great footage. (Includes a 30 second commercial, actual video is only 4 minutes 45 seconds.)

Credit given to Adam McManus and Jill Stanek. Jill has a great post on the Personhood Theory.

For example, did you know that the term “person” is “subject to dispute and re-interpretation based on alternate definitions”? That it’s use is “not necessarily synonymous with the classical definition of human or human being”?

Lately, I’ve weighing the pros and cons about the Constitution Party and Chuck Baldwin vs. Dr. Alan Keyes.

Personally, I prefer Dr. Alan Keyes’ political experience and consistent, conservative history. And up until a week ago, I wasn’t wholeheartedly going to support the CP’s nominated presidential candidate…until I had a lesson in history, that is.

After becoming frustrated with SOTW’s focus on mythology, we began a new textbook, to supplement history, called Streams of Civilization. To sum it up, the particular lesson was on how history repeats itself and how important it is to learn as much as possible about the way people lived in the past. For one who used to despise history (speaking of myself), it now holds a very dear place in my heart. I want to learn as much as I can.

The book, Streams of Civilization, explains how people in many different disciplines (like archaeology and anthropology, geography and geology, biology, economics, political science, and religion) provide information on past civilizations and cultures. Just as we learn from our mistakes, we can learn from the mistakes and victories of others in history. Streams of Civilization gives this example on p.6 (paraphrased):

“Although Napoleon and Hitler ruled a century apart, they were faced with similar situations and decisions. Napoleon, as emperor of France, conquered almost all of Europe except England. When his army invaded Russia, the Russian army kept retreating, while the French marched further and further into Russia. When the bitter cold winter arrived, the French army was almost completely destroyed and Napoleon never recovered and soon afterwards lost his throne. Hitler, as dictator of Germany, also conquered most of Europe except England. And instead of learning from Napoleon’s mistake, Hitler invaded Russia, too. The Germans were pulled deeper into Russia as the Russian armies began retreated. When winter arrived, the Germans were trapped in a conflict they could not win. Hitler was forced to continue sending men and supplies to Russia, which gradually weakened Germany’s forces. Then Russia’s allies invaded Europe. Like Napoleon, Hitler was defeated.”

History also shows that people’s behavior, problems, and needs have been very much the same throughout the ages.

First of all, I still have so much more to learn about a non-interventionist foreign policy. This topic was argued very well by unnamed parties that have made me think and prayerfully consider this topic in light of the Bible. I am learning how to enjoy God’s sometimes uncomfortable process of sanctification.

When I consider the war we are in, I come to a certain realization that the U.S. could very well be drained of its finances, resources, and eventually international support leading to “national bankruptcy” - a goal, if not THE goal, of a certain terrorist leader, namely Osama bin Laden.

In relation to the U.S. being in Iraq, there is much more history I write this in ignorance of. But, so far, I have a lot to consider in these two examples of Napoleon and Hitler and Bin Laden’s own admission, “We, alongside the mujahedeen, bled Russia for 10 years until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat,” Bin Laden said.

I was not surprised to see a graph on one of my husband’s investment newsletters with Japan having very little to no inflation, in the areas of “services” or “food”. However, according to the chart, America and Spain were the highest. Also, confirmed here.

Americans may have an abundance, but sadly, most of it is borrowed. It’s not how our country was formed though. Americans used to be pioneers and hard workers…there ARE a few of those left.

What is our national debt?
The last time I checked it was $ 9 , 3 5 4 , 1 5 9 , 4 3 0 , 7 7 0 . 6 3!!! Some of us can’t even count that high.

What about the earliest form of government…a.k.a. “the family unit”? What is each citizen’s share of debt?
The last time I checked it was $ 3 0 , 7 7 6 . 0 7!

Who’s worse the “public” or the “government”?
We must take responsibility for ourselves and hold each other accountable. Don’t Americans glory in freedom? Then, why are so many Americans debtors, or slaves to the lender? Oh, America, are the accusations of becoming a selfish, wasteful, pleasure-seeking nation true? Have Americans forgotten that we are citizens of a country which fights for freedom because it was built on freedom? There is freedom in debt-free living.

Forgive us, Lord, for turning away from your Truth. I pray that You direct us back to Your Truth, guiding us all into living out a humble, debt-free life both individually and as a nation. Your Word teaches us that we can only serve one master and we desire that Master to be You…not money, not a lender. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

I must confess why I am babbling on about all this…foreign policy, money, and national bankruptcy. The short answer is…we are traveling to France this summer for a family wedding.

I just checked gas prices in France. Unleaded gas costs about 1.55 euros per liter. Doesn’t sound like a whole lot, until you do the math. The Universal Currency Converter confirms that 1.55 euros equals $2.40. There are 3.7854 gallons per liter. Therefore, unleaded gas in France costs about $9.08 per gallon!!!

When I went to France 17 years ago, one dollar bought a little over 1.5 euros. Today, it is reversed. It takes over 1.5 dollars (and climbing) to purchase 1 euro. Here are the current exchange rates and here is a history of exchange rates for the euro since 2000.

When we take this a little further, we find that our current bank prime loan is 5.0. A year ago, it was 8.25…with a dip below 5.0 between 2002 and 2004…post-9/11.

So, should we give up the fight on terrorism? No!

So, what is the proposed alternative?
Like Ron Paul, some suggest issuing a letter of marque and reprisal. I did some research into this when Ron Paul was still running in the GOP. Decide for yourself.

“If I Were President” by Chuck Baldwin
chuckbaldwin.JPG

Constitution Party 2008 Presidential Candidate

Due to my frequent criticisms of President George W. Bush, I am often asked what I would do if I were President of these United States. This column will serve as an attempt to answer that question. If I were President, I would begin the process of safely extracting our troops from Iraq. In the first place, our troops are no longer fighting a war, they are an occupation force, which occupies a sovereign country. And this is being done without a Declaration of War. The Iraqi people resent our occupation as much as we would resent another nation stronger than ours invading and occupying America. If such a thing happened to our beloved country, I’m sure many of us would also become “insurgents.”

In the second place, the invasion and occupation of Iraq was absolutely unnecessary. Instead of sacrificing more than 4,000 American lives and the lives of tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens (not to mention some 2-3 trillion dollars), President Bush should have supported Ron Paul’s bill, H.R. 3076, the September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001. This is the constitutional way to deal with rogue terrorist organizations. This is the way President Thomas Jefferson responded to the Barbary pirates.

According to Congressman Paul, “A letter of marque and reprisal is a constitutional tool specifically designed to give the President the authority to respond with appropriate force to those non-state actors who wage aggression against the United States while limiting his authority to only those responsible for the atrocities of that day. Such a limited authorization is consistent with the doctrine of just war and the practical aim of keeping Americans safe while minimizing the costs in blood and treasure of waging such an operation.”

Had President Bush responded in this manner, tens of thousands of lives would have been saved, trillions of dollars would not have needed to be spent, Osama bin Laden and most of his fellow terrorists would likely be dead, and we would not be bogged down in a nightmarish military quagmire in Iraq. And, if I were President, this is exactly how I would handle terrorist organizations such as al Qaeda.

Furthermore, it is absolutely ludicrous to say we are fighting a war on terror half way around the world when we refuse to secure our borders and ports. If I were President, I would immediately seal our borders. I would also see to it that employers in America who knowingly hire illegal aliens are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In plain language: any employer who consciously hires illegal aliens would go to jail. They would not pass Go; they would not collect $200; they would go straight to jail.

By sealing the borders and by cutting off the money supply to illegal aliens, the problem of illegal immigration would dry up. As it is, we have no idea how many potential terrorists–not to mention violent gang members such as MS-13–have snuck (and are sneaking) through our borders.

And speaking of illegal immigration, as President, I would enforce our visa rules. This means anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law is immediately deported. There would be no “path to citizenship” given to any illegal alien. That means no amnesty. Not in any shape, manner, or form. I would not allow tax dollars to be used to pay for illegal aliens’ education, social services, or medical care. As President, I would end birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. There would be no “anchor babies” during my administration.

If I were President, I would use the bully pulpit of the White House to encourage Congress to pass Congressman Ron Paul’s Sanctity of Life Act. In short, this bill would do two things: First, it would declare that unborn babies are persons under the law. Second, under the authority of Article. III. Section. 2. of the U.S. Constitution, it would remove abortion from the jurisdiction of the Court. In essence, this bill would immediately overturn Roe v. Wade and end legalized abortion.

Republicans tout themselves as being “pro-life.” Yet, the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and the White House for six years and did absolutely nothing to overturn Roe or end abortion-on-demand. Under my administration, we could end legal abortion in a matter of days, not decades. And if Congress refused to pass Dr. Paul’s bill, I would use the constitutional power of the Presidency to deny funds to protect abortion clinics. Either way, legalized abortion ends when I take office.

On the subject of foreign policy, as President, I would end foreign aid. I would also end the current infatuation with nation-building, empire-building, and interventionism. America is not the world’s policeman. Neither are our military personnel the personal militia of the United Nations.

Remember that President Bush told the U.N. in 2003 that the reason we invaded Iraq was for the purpose of securing the “peace and credibility of the United Nations.” (I lie not; that is what he said.) President Bush also placed the U.S. back under UNESCO in spite of the fact that President Reagan had heroically taken the U.S. out from under that sinister organization.

I am sure that readers recall that the U.N. Charter was authored by a Soviet communist agent (Alger Hiss) and that the U.S. has been fighting wars for the U.N. ever since the organization was created back in 1945.

Speaking of the United Nations, as President, I would withhold funds from the support of the United Nations. In other words, I would get the U.S. out of the U.N. Beyond that, when I move into the White House, the U.N.’s rent is up! They move out of New York City post haste.

By the same token, there is absolutely no reason for us to be in NATO. We should not be antagonizing Russia by attempting to expand NATO. There is no reason why Russia could not become a friend and ally of the United States. Free and fair trade with Russia and a noninterventionist foreign policy in Europe would do much to endear American interests to Russia. To insist on expanding and empowering NATO only serves to further alienate Russia and drive her to make alliances with Communist China.

Speaking of China, it is time that we recognize the very serious threat that China poses to the peace and security of the United States. Our trade practices serve only to allow corporate America to continue to invest in what will surely become an albatross around the neck of our well-being. We must discontinue the practice of allowing China to export its cheap products to the U.S. with no protection for America’s jobs and manufacturing, not to mention the lack of protection for our safety. This must stop, and it will stop when I become President. “Free trade” will no longer mean a free ride for Red China.

Furthermore, as President, I would take the preservation of our nation’s sovereignty and independence extremely seriously. This means that the burgeoning North American Union is dead on arrival the day I am sworn in as President. Gone, too, is the NAFTA superhighway. And for that matter, I would lead the United States out of NAFTA and CAFTA altogether. And any prospect for the FTAA would be dead as well.

As President, I would be the best friend that gun owners (and lawful gun dealers), homeschoolers, and veterans ever had in the White House. These are three of the most persecuted, harassed, or overlooked groups of people in the country. But not if I were President.

There is no reason why our veterans should wait for weeks and months to receive the medical care they need. It is disgraceful that we would ask our brave men and women of the U.S. armed forces to fight our country’s battles and then leave them to pretty much fend for themselves when it comes to receiving adequate health care. I would make taking care of our veterans an extremely high priority, if I were President.

If I were President, I would also do everything in my power to locate and retrieve any and all MIAs. I personally believe that there are hundreds of our servicemen who are yet being held against their will in various parts of the world. I would make finding them and bringing them home of utmost priority, if I were President.

On the home front, if I were President, I would end corporate welfare. I would also work to disband the Department of Energy (along with the Department of Education and many other federal departments). There is absolutely no reason for us to be dependent upon OPEC. There is enough gas and oil under the soil of Alaska (not to mention the Dakotas and the Gulf of Mexico) to meet the energy needs of the United States for the next 150-200 years. There is also no reason that gas should cost more than $1.50 a gallon (which is about what it was before Bush became President).

We must begin drilling for the domestic oil that we know exists; we must build more refineries and nuclear power plants. There is no reason why the United States cannot be mostly energy independent. It is time we started putting the people and interests of the United States ahead of the CEOs and interests of international corporations.

Lastly, if I were President, I would work feverishly to overturn the Sixteenth Amendment, which would repeal the Income Tax. And, no, I would not promote a national sales tax. That would be disastrous! Can you imagine what a 30% sales tax would do to the cost of EVERYTHING? Plus, give politicians a national sales tax to increase and just imagine what kind of percent that would grow into!

I would also work to repeal the “death tax,” inheritance taxes, and property taxes. The American people are already paying somewhere between 30% and 40% of their income to Uncle Sam. It must stop. We are bankrupting our country with this incessant and burdensome tax system. In addition, I would work to expunge the Federal Reserve and to restore the American economy to sound money.

Now, I hear people say, That’s easy for you to say; you are not a candidate for President. Ah, but now I am.

Last week, in its national nominating convention in Kansas City, Missouri, the Constitution Party nominated me as its 2008 Presidential candidate. Party delegates nominated me over Ambassador Alan Keyes by a margin of 74% to 24%. Therefore, I am now a candidate for President of these United States.

See the CP website at a href=”http://www.constitutionparty.com”>ConstitutionParty.com

My Vice Presidential running mate is Darrell Castle, an attorney and Vietnam War Marine Corps veteran from Memphis, Tennessee.

Our web site is not online yet, but will be soon. We will be able to receive credit card donations when the web page is uploaded. The address of my campaign web site is: Baldwin2008.com

In the meantime, if anyone wants to support our campaign, checks may be written to:

I believe it is only fair, as I continue to write these columns, that one understands the full disclosure of my candidacy.

As readers know, I enthusiastically supported Ron Paul during the Republican Primary season. I plan to continue to trumpet his call for limited government, non-interventionism abroad, constitutional government, and freedom into the general election as a Third Party candidate.

I do not expect the national media to pay us much heed; they seldom do. I do not expect to receive large donations from corporate America. I do expect criticism and ridicule. That is nothing new. However, I also anticipate tens of thousands of freedom-loving people from all religious persuasions and walks of life to rally to our cause. Why? Because thousands of principled people will not be bullied into voting for the “evil of two lessers” being shoved down our throats by the two major parties. Because this campaign is not about Chuck Baldwin. It is not about a political party. It is about freedom. It is about constitutional government. It is about restoring America to the founding principles bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers. If you believe in those principles, join us!

In the meantime, these columns will continue to serve as a voice for America’s founding principles, as they have for the past eight-plus years. In addition, unlike the candidates from the two major parties, the taxpayers are not underwriting my campaign, and I will continue my day job. (Imagine that: a Presidential candidate who actually works for a living!) And all of this is just in time for my 56th birthday, which is tomorrow, May 3.

There you have it: this is what I would do if I were President of these wonderful United States of America.

Yes, my husband was late for dinner. But, there was some miscommunication…on my part. However, it was a blessing.

My dh meets with another brother in Christ for prayer once a week. And they’ve been working on…well…umm…I forgot “what” exactly. But, it IS really good. I just forgot. *lol*

So, at dinner he asked me if I could be intentional about getting to bed “on time”, subject to my interpretation, to be able to wake up with him EVERY morning at 5am, so we can exercise and spend some time together.

OK, you can only imagine how many heartstrings this hit, since I revealed in Friendship Party #1 that my love language is “Quality Time”.

My first thought was to try for a 10pm bedtime, until I realized how unrealistic that would be for me. Instead, I will try for 11pm and work “towards” 10:30pm.

I will be spending time with dh, exercising, and (working on) getting more sleep. God is good.

Still on my to do list:
*Finish gathering/ordering books for the next school year
*Practice French and teach girls a couple of hulas for a wedding this summer (more details on this later)
*Start sewing and working on a couple of quilts (I don’t see this goal being fruitful this summer.)
*Stretch and clean carpets
*Paint interior trim and walls (…or this one.)

I join Path of Life every week in honoring our husbands.

So, every morning the kids and I pray together at the breakfast table. Every morning we lift up my dh for safety, favor in his workplace, skill, wisdom, discernment, and help with guarding his eyes, ears, and heart against temptation. My praise report this week is that my husband reportedly stepped out of the room when asked if he wanted to hear a joke, instead of bearing the usual coarse joking, and also when asked if he could “keep a secret”. Already knowing some of the things my husband has confided in me, I know that THIS type of temptation is more of a “guy” thing. So, I praise the Lord for daily evidence that He is sanctifying my dh. I am also very thankful that my husband can confide in me, and I in him.

Well…the fourth and final Friendship Party has come.

This week’s theme is:
click to generate your own textclick to generate your own textclick to generate your own text

Abba Father,
You have given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. You have given to us exceedingly great and precious promises. I desire your promises of joy for myself. I want to trade the spirit of heaviness for the garment of praise because in Your presence is fullness of joy. I will count it all joy when I fall into various trials, awaiting Your redemption and Your glory, remembering that Your joy comes in the morning. Amen.

Psalm 16:11
“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Luke 15:7
“I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

John 15:11
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Psalm 30:5
“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”

Isaiah 61:3
“To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”

Hebrews 12:2
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

James 1:2
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials”

1 Peter 4:13
“But rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with
exceeding joy.”

It’s spring! I love spring! Life, color, beauty…and weeds. Yes, I forgot how much work it is to take care of the yard and garden in the spring. I am reminded of how diligent I must be throughout the year in pulling weeds…from the roots. I want to be weed free…in my life.

Well, I didn’t get to paint my walls over spring break. But, I’d trade a visit from my mother over my “To Do” list ANYTIME. I thought we’d kick off this week with a bit of spring cleaning, since I didn’t get much done over spring break. So…FREE screen cleaners for everyone! Get yours here!

There, now you can watch the following video “clearly”. (HeHe - You can thank Nanette for that one. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share that one with you.) When I decided to use the screen cleaner and the following video, I didn’t know how they were going to tie into this week’s theme, since I didn’t have one (a theme) until the last hour preceding this post. I’ve been so busy this past week. I don’t like being busy. Busyness can be a joy thief without prayer and relying on Truth. This video gave me a much needed belly laugh. Hope you haven’t seen it yet.

Only 3 minutes 40 seconds. The end is the best, so don’t miss it. Don’t forget to turn off, or “pause”, my music player, if you haven’t already. You can turn it back on when you’re done. *smile* (And you might want to go potty first…if you’re holding it.)

Dr. Alan Keyes has chosen April 15 to make a major announcement about his intentions in this year’s U.S. presidential race — a highly irregular, undemocratic, media-controlled electoral process that appears aimed at giving voters little or no say about who ultimately governs them.

Dr. Keyes’ announcement will take place in a press conference that will be streamed live at AlanKeyes.com from the Best Western hotel in Hazleton, PA, Tuesday evening, April 15. The exact time is still pending.

I join Path of Life every week in honoring our husbands.

After all these years, I never “realized” that my husband had the gift of working with his hands. His recent career triggered lots of prayer, almost 4 months ago, to rebuke “doubt” that he could learn the skill, without any previous experience or knowledge in the field of prosthetics. The Lord establishes the work of his hands for him everyday. I pray for him daily because he has so much to learn and there are so many opportunities for error. Looking back, I remember some of the beautiful things he has made with him own hands. I wish I had pics of them all. These are just some of the treasures I remember.

In high school, he made this beautiful wooden bowl: jereds-crafts-001.JPG

And this vase which I have taken possession of, as my fancy pencil holder:
jereds-crafts-004.JPGjereds-crafts-005.JPG

Something he made that I don’t have anymore is a beautiful hand blown, clear glass Christmas tree ornament in the shape of a “JL” - our trademark. *sigh*

Oh, and more recently…my very own first hand binding book press:

I am a very blessed wife.

I LOVE to read. But doing so comes at the expense of using discernment - filtering through lots of untruths to get some truth. The following verses were actually given to me from the same friend, that just sent the Oprah video, several years ago. I had never read it in the Amplified version, so here it is:

Ecclesiastes 12:9-13:

9And furthermore, because the Preacher was wise, he [Solomon] still taught the people knowledge; and he pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.

10The Preacher sought acceptable words, even to write down rightly words of truth or correct sentiment.

11The words of the wise are like prodding goads, and firmly fixed [in the mind] like nails are the collected sayings which are given [as proceeding] from one Shepherd.

12But about going further [than the words given by one Shepherd], my son, be warned. Of making many books there is no end [so do not believe everything you read], and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man.

14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good or evil.

Here are my thoughts about reading books or watching movies like Harry Potter, etc. There are those (writers/teachers) who are wise, but “fools” are in even greater abundance. Time spent on “knowledge” (of the world - i.e. philosophy/ideas of man) is time taken away from wisdom (God’s Truth). To tell you the truth, we have struggled with reading even the Chronicles of Narnia - despite the analogies. Really…why use mysticism to relate the gospel. That is NOT truth. C.S. Lewis is indeed a great literature writer, but to do so with mysticism is NOT biblical. We read all of book one together and saw the movie several years ago. We had some issues with it. Started reading Prince of Caspian a year and a half ago, and watched the movie last year. But, the kids had a lot of issues with it, so we stopped. My kids refuse to continue reading it at this point. But, they have strong convictions and discernment about ungodliness, my oldest especially. We find knowledge, understanding, and wisdom in Christ.

Colossians 2:8:

2My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,

3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

4I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.

5For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.

6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,

7rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

I think the entire chapter 4 of 1 Timothy does a pretty good job of summing it up. I don’t know which version you prefer. You can read it in your favorite, or all versions at Bible Gateway.

King James Version

New King James Version

Amplified Bible Version

New International Version

New Living Translation

The Message

New American Standard Version

English Standard Version

In all the books I’ve read, I have not gained as much wisdom as reading ONE truth from God’s Word. The Bible contains absolute truth. Writers get their ideas from some source, whether absolute or relative truth. I firmly believe that we should be reading the Bible more than any other book. We are to take responsibility for “living out” the Truth before “teaching” the Truth. The Bible tells us that we can speak more Truth into the lives of others through our example more than our words anyway. And since parents are given the command in Deuteronomy 6, we have an even greater responsibility to know Truth, more than knowledge.

Any comments?

I just got an email from a friend from California, featuring this 8 minute video. I decided to post it because of some interesting conversation with another friend about how much time we should spend teaching our children philosophies, mythologies, or books like Harry Potter, in order to relate with the world. Plus, I just know how much Oprah irks Betsy. *wink*

No, Oprah is NOT a Christian.

Timestamp: 2008-03-28 05:23:09 UTC @ Random.org

Congratulations, Kim…from Canada! It has been such a pleasure meeting all of you. Thank you for keeping in touch throughout the week, too! I hope you got a chance to visit each other during the week. I was very busy this past week and had very little computer time. So, I’m still working on getting around to everyone as often as I can.

This week’s party theme is:

click to generate your own textclick to generate your own textclick to generate your own textclick to generate your own text

I really wanted to do something fun, but I had no time this week to work on the party. After much prayer today, my heart was spurred for this week’s theme by the verse:

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:2

What IS love?

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

I teach my children that they must honor and obey their mother and father at all times, UNLESS (of course) we’re doing something immoral or illegal. I also teach them that things will go well with them if they do. One day, when I was specifically instructing one of my children in this, it dawned on me just how much my disobedience can be a stumbling block to my children. Even though I acknowledge God’s order of authority and submit to my husband’s leadership, living that out at all times can be quite challenging.

For example, if my dear, sweet husband should say something rude or behave selfishly towards me, I MUST die to myself (my feelings of hurt, revenge, bitterness, etc.), forgive, AND love him because love covers a multitude of sins. Actually, the Bible says to love DEEPLY, or FERVENTLY, or EARNESTLY.

OK…in the heat of the moment, THAT is hard. But, we must take it to the Lord in prayer and leave it ALL at the cross. This also applies to being wronged by a child, a mother, a sister, a friend, etc.

However, in a marriage, we are “modeling” to our children how to be obedient to God’s order of authority.

Ephesians 5:25, 28, 33 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself…However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself…and the wife must respect her husband.

I would like to add here that this was soooo hard to do when my husband was an unbeliever. I always thought, “Lord, if you just fix my husband, everything will be fine.” *laughing outburst* Yea, right! He replied, “It may SEEM that way, but if you trust Me, I’ll show you just a “few” things you need to work on, so that the work I’m doing in Him isn’t hindered.” Yes, I trusted Him, not knowing His “few” was actually more than I could keep count of. *LOL*

If we are modeling unforgiveness, revenge, or bitterness, then our sin is a stumbling block to our children. Of course, we teach our children that they are still accountable for their own actions and reactions. And we ARE standing in the gap for them in prayer, while we teach them to take responsibility for their own faith, to love the Lord, their God, with all their heart, mind, and soul, remembering their Creator in their youth. But, we are also warned not to provoke our children, but to bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. No doubt, my faithfulness to God’s Truth is tested over and over again. Maybe I’m the only one that finds this difficult to do.

I LOVE children. They bring me such delight. They are marvelous creatures. And I love my children. But, I must admit that even after prayer and regular devotions this morning, I STILL had to take several deep breaths when I was in the post office today. (I had too much on my mind.) My arms were loaded with Betsy’s package, my purse, and another bag, when my littlest INSISTS on being carried! I couldn’t. I really couldn’t…without hurting myself. *LOL* She’s a little 4 year old, but she’s not that light. *LOL* Ever have moments like that?

Oh Most High, my Wonderful Counselor, I desire to be more Christ-like in ALL my ways. I desire to put off impatience, unkindness, pride, rudeness, selfishness, unrighteous anger, and any record of wrongs. Your Word says that love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. And that love never fails. But, Lord I fail every day to love perfectly. I am so thankful, Lord, that Your mercies are new every morning. Thank you, Lord, that You give me hope, strength, and wisdom to get back up and persevere. Teach me to love with Your perfectness, Your purity, and Your sincerity. Lord, it is delightful to walk in Your forgiveness, Your grace, and Your mercy. How beautiful is Your love! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Do you play guitar? Here’s one of Tim Hughes teaching his song, ‘Beautiful One’
(If you haven’t done so already, please turn off, or “pause”, my music player above.)

Beautiful One by Jeremy Camp. The song begins at 1:58 - you will bypass the band intros.

I hope you’ve been encouraged to love more deeply. I am. I pray you continue to love the Lord, Your God, with all Your heart, mind, and soul. I pray you continue to build loving, family-like relationships with other believers. And may the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else.

In addition to singing along with a CD and learning some of them on the piano, this is how my fourth grader primarily committed them to memory. I will continue to add files as we learn new hymns. (DRUMROLL please…ah! come on…you peeked already, didn’t you?!)

Glitter Words

Timestamp: 2008-03-21 05:44:58 UTC @ Random.org

Congratulations, Betsy!!! That was my first experience with Random.org. You know, I would have been totally OK with it taking just a wee bit longer in picking the winner. After all, I was pretty excited about the anticipation AND there was a disclaimer that read it “may take awhile”. BUT, it was over before I could blink!!! LOL

Thank you for participating in the party and giveaway! I was SO blessed to hear from all of you at the Friendship Party last week! Thank you for keeping in touch throughout the week, too! Did you get a chance to visit each other? I’m working on getting around to everyone as often as I can…considering “time” issues…just like you, I’m sure.

I apologize for all the mix-ups last week and I pray there will be less this week. Thank you for your kindness and patience. To say the LEAST, I’m learning so much every day.

Last week’s theme was very light. Do you agree? If you didn’t get to participate in last week’s party, you might want to check it out first. This week’s theme is a bit more serious…worship. But, I’ve included 2 clips to lighten it up and HOPEFULLY crack a smile.

friends-worship.gif

“…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:18-21

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

Worship is a personal response to God. Worship involves a life of obedience to God.

“The God whom we worship acts in history to work out the salvation of the world. He has come in Jesus to establish the Kingdom of God and to defeat the powers and principalities that distort human life. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to the church so that the church can witness to Christ’s victory over the powers of evil. The Spirit is the power that enables the church to go public with its good news to attract a crowd, to have something to say worth hearing.” (Acts, Interpretation Commentary, William H. Willimon p. 33)

“If we take seriously the need to gather the gifts that the Spirit has placed among God’s people, those who are responsible for shaping a congregation’s worship services will have to exercise spiritual discernment in order to keep the congregation firmly focused on God. They will need to be firmly grounded in prayer and in the study of scripture. It involves our being willing to be seized and transfigured by the Holy Spirit and formed in the image of Christ. When the people of God allow that to happen…then our worship will give glory to God. (Source: “Spiritual Gifts and Worship” by Christine Jerrett, September, 2003)

Wonderful, Merciful Father, I pray for unity among believers. I pray for a revival of true worship. I pray that believers will be empowered to use the gifts you have given them for your glory. You alone deserve our worship. I pray that this would be a blessed time of worship in spirit and in truth unto You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

(If you haven’t already, please turn off, or “pause”, the music player up above.)

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

“As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.” Romans 14:11

Do you speak Hmong? Here is a sweet reminder and encouragement that EVERY tongue shall confess to God.

You can sing along…

All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In his presence daily live.

I surrender all, I surrender all; All to thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender, Humbly at His feet I bow, Worldly pleasures all forsaken, Take me Jesus, take me now.

I surrender all, I surrender all; All to thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

“Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.” 2 Samuel 6:14-16

“David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the music master with the singers. David also wore a linen ephod. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps. And it happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the City of David, that Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David whirling and playing music; and she despised him in her heart.” 1 Chronicles 15:27-29

Did I ever mention I played the clarinet for a year or two? lol Yes…that’s how I learned to read sheet music.

And I chose this one for my mother, who played the accordion. (*smile*)

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18 Also, Galatians 4:19, Colossians 3:10

It is so important that every Christian discover their spiritual gift and learn how to use it to serve God. I will share that my primary spiritual gift is discernment. At various points in my walk with Christ, I have been fearful of using my spiritual gift to the point of refusing to use it. However, I recognized that the denial of my spiritual gift was believing a lie from the father of lies. My selfishness and disbelief led to disobedience and the fear of man, not God. I confessed my disbelief, in having this gift and the refusal to use it, as sin. I desire to embrace my spiritual gift and use it for God’s glory. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

“If we are inhibited to use our gifts, we inhibit the power of God to work through our lives. But, if we are obedient to the Spirit’s low-risk promptings, God will confirm the gift in us with power, and our confidence in God will grow into full maturity. (If pride grows as well, God will let us fall to remind us where the power comes from.)” (Source Unknown)

Some of us have the nature of trying to do it all - the need for and satisfaction of perfection. Maturity should not be confused with perfection.

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2

The truth is that no Christian has every gift 1 Corinthians 12:28-30. Really…if we did, then we wouldn’t need the body of Christ. Therefore, our focus should be on building up our primary spiritual gift for the fulfillment of God’s call and purpose for our lives Romans 12:2-8; 1 Corinthians 1:4-9, and building up the church (the body of believers) 1 Corinthians 14:12,12:27; Ephesians 4:16, 2:21; 1 Peter 4:10. Believers will account to the Lord for how they use their gift 1 Peter 4:10. However, our gift must be used in LOVE to accomplish God’s intended purposes 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.

Path of Life had this great idea a couple of months ago to honor her husband on her blog weekly, and so I’ve joined her.

This week I want to bless my husband for being organized. Women who are neat freaks know just what a blessing this is. Need I say more. lol

If my camera weren’t out of service right now, I’d take a pic of his car, or toolboxes, or garage, or something, just for the fun of it. LOL
