I love these things, I use them in my kids bedrooms to fold their pants into. They shoe ones are the perfect size for folded pants and I normally put two in one slot. I also use the square ones for toys as they can be drug around the house and not scratch the floor. I just found your blog and love it, have some reading to do. Thanks

I was so pleased to find your article. I live in a lovely old century farm house with only ONE closet upstairs ----and we had to add it during a remodel project. This week I decided to completely clean it out because it had become a "catch-all" for many items that don't belong there. The canvas bags you show will be very helpful for my sweater storage, but I prefer my table linens to be on hangars and there simply isn't room. My ceilings are low and slanted just as your are. I'm considering putting all winter items in formal storage at our local cleaners, but finances are tight right now and I hate to spend the extra money that way. I have a canvas shoe bag on the closet rod already so space is VERY limited. Wish me luck!
I'll watch for you posting other good ideas. Meanwhile, I'm searching every storage solution site I can find online.

That's a great idea! We have extremely limited closet space in our house. One closet was eliminated by the builders to make room for stairs going into the basement, and the other closet's are tiny. I have to try to make the best use of what I have.

If you are interested in solid shelving rather than the type of shelves in your pictures you might try MDF board. It is sold in the lumber section of the Lowe's and Home Depot type stores, and is much less expensive than wood. It is very heavy and strong as well. My dh built a bookcase for our schoolroom out of it, and I painted it with enamel paint.

We are going to need to replace some shelves in our hall closet. The builders used some leftover boards to make shelves in this particular closet. They aren't deep enough and some of the shelves consist of two very narrow pieces of board that aren't even nailed down. We plan to use MDF as a replacement, saving a lot of money in the process.

Blessings,
Missy
