Tackling Outgrown Clothes
When I purge closets, the garage, toys, etc I have a garbage box and donate box. It is MUCH easier for me to get rid of something if I know someone can use it. Otherwise, I keep items to save “until someone needs it.” Translation: it sits in the closet or garage for several months.

Back to School Purge Tackle
This week, I cleaned out my boys drawers and closets and packed up two large boxes of outgrown clothes and shoes for donation and one box for hand-me-downs (for grandchildren).
This time of year people are getting ready for school. Someone else will benefit from the clothes and my boys’ drawers are much neater.

We have a Goodwill close to our home (Salvation Army is over 30 miles away). Items that are especially valued at both charities:
- Furniture that is in good condition
- Housewares such as lamps, dishes, decorative accessories
- Art and collectibles
- Toys and books in good condition
- Small electrical appliances and electronics such as working VCRs and TVs
- Sporting goods
- Clothing, shoes, coats, and sportswear in good repair
- Linens that are clean and are not ripped or stained
Tackle it Tuesday is a blog meme to motivate you to tackle a project each week. Tackle It Tuesday is about giving ourselves incentive, deadlines and satisfaction in getting our household tasks done. (It doesn’t even have to be housework… just whatever is on your To Do list.) Go over and read through the encouraging posts.

I am a big fan of donating things to the charities such as Goodwill. If you are a big donator be sure to keep your donation reciepts for tax time. Another resources that I use for getting rid of things is Freecycle.
Great tackle.

When we lived in NY, we used to give to the salvation army. Then one day they wouldnt take a piece of furniture, they said it wasnt good enough. I was dumbfounded. So we took it to Centro Civico. Now that we live in Florida, in a very rural area, there is no salvation army or centro civico, or anything else. So we either give stuff to the local churches, if I know they will go to someone who really needs it, freecycle for large things, or another way which is a charity for battered women trying to start a new life. I used to sell toys and clothes on ebay, but it just got to be too much work, for a little bit of money. We do have a flea market here, but I have never tried that.

Now that is a great tackle! I love how clean & organized the kids’ drawers look when the too small stuff is purged – at least until the kids get in there LOL!

I have clothes I started sorting through a while a go; you have inspired me to get back down in the basement and finish what I have started. Especially, with the new school year starting – someone could benefit from my donation. Great job!

That horrible thing I do is get a bag or box of stuff ready to go to goodwill, and then it sits, and sits, and sits. Your post reminded me of one such bag. I’ll make it my goal to turn it in next time I’m in town.
Thanks!

Hi Robin!
It does feel good to purge and organize, doesn’t it? I too love it when my closets are slimmed down and organized! I too, cannot give something away unless I know it will be used. That is a very hard concept for me! I just don’t thrown things away. I need them to have a purpose somewhere! Luckily my kids are older than my sisters and brothers’ kids, so I do pass alot down the line.
Thanks for sharing- and coming to visit me!

I wish we had a Good Will around here. But there is a battered women’s shelter I think I am going to take a bunch of stuff to. It’s hard for me to give anything away though because I’m always like “I might wear that again” lol…

Great tackle. I was discussing this same issue with my son this morning. I may have to just do that for next week’s tackle.
Awesome idea about the Goodwill. I may even contact my Church to see if there are refugee families that would fit some of my sons clothes.

This is a really great tackle Robin, Way to go! This past year, donation boxes were placed permanently in the parking lot of our son’s school. If you donate there, the school gets money from the charity! It’s a three way win!

I donate regularly to the thrift store if I don’t have someone currently in need. My last batch of clothes went to a mom of two young children who lost her house in a fire. I really like your idea of making sure to donate now so that families that need school clothes have a good selection to choose from. I would have never thought of that! Thanks for the idea.
