RC Cola & MoonPie Festival

feature photo

A few weeks ago we attended the 15th annual RC Moon Pie Festival rated a TOP 20 event by the Southeastern Tourism Society.

Tucked away among the rolling hills, farmland of Tennessee lays the little historic town of Bell Buckle about 20 minutes from our home in Shelbyville (also known as  Walking Horse country).

If you’re not from the south you might not “get it”.

Every year on the third Saturday in June, Bell Buckle celebrates the South’s two most honored traditions are celebrated RC Colas and Moon Pies.

It was HOT! Heat index over 100 degrees! I wore a bandanna on my neck and soaked it in cold water several times an hour to beat the heat.

Bell Buckle is a nice little town with great shopping. The population of just over 400 wells to 15,000 for this festival.

Its a small world! We ran into our puppies sister! Amazing. We booth bought our Shichon puppies over 3 hours away and we met here at the RC Moonpie Festival.  After a brief talk and comparing doggy birthdays we realized they were related. Cuttiepie!

Christopher caught a Moonpie from a parade float (I think it was the last on on the parade route) He wanted to bring home to Dad. By that time it was melted chocolate mushpie.

Lots of junk food:  cotton candy, snow cones and of course Moon Pies and RC Colas.

The hayride and wonderful breeze was my favorite part of the day.

Let the Games Begin

On to the games. Children balance an open RC Cola on there head and see how far they can walk. Soda spurted everywhere!
