Preventing the Flu Without Vaccines: Vitamin D

Many people who are leery of the swine flu vaccine for good reason. The mercury, aborted fetus cell lines, pig and other unclean animals, read Flu Shots and Vaccines Break Bible Dietary Laws.

Vitamin C is the vitamin that comes to mind when we think about  immunity, but there is significant evidence   showing vitamin D plays a more important role. Most people are severally deficient in Vitamin D.

Nine out of 10 Americans are deficient in vitamin D! Doctors  recommend an intake of 1,000 IUD or more of vitamin D, especially during the winter months and at higher latitudes.

Influenza en MéxicoA lack of sunlight exposure in the winter months (equaling a  lack of vitamin D absorption) a significant reason why colds and the flu are so prevalent in the winter months.

Ongoing research is proving that there is a strong correlation between Vitamin D deficiency and critical illness.

Deficiency of this crucial vitamin has been identified as a cause of severe and disabling diseases such as rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalasia.

Recent research is showing that low levels of the vitamin could be behind simpler problems like body aches and muscle pains which many think is fibromyalgia.

93 Percent Patients had Seriously Low Levels

Sun kisses MountainA recent study by the University of Minnesota’s Community Health Care Center measured the D vitamin levels of 150 people being treated for persistent, unexplained body aches and pains. The results showed that 93 percent of the patients had seriously low levels of the vitamin.

Other factors that influence the body’s ability to produce the vitamin include weight and skin color; heavier people and those with darker skin have more difficulty producing sufficient amounts of the vitamin.

Lack of Vitamin D Linked to Obesity

Tight Jeans, Dominican RepublicA study preesented at The Endocrine Society’s annual 2009 meeting in Washington, D.C., Dr. Shalamar Sibley from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis told the conference about their research findings. In 38 overweight and obese men and women, Vitamin D levels (25 hydroxy vitamin D) were measured before beginning a low calorie diet.

On average, vitamin D levels in study subjects were in the insufficient range (again suggesting that overweight people tend to have low vitamin D levels). More importantly, they found that vitamin D levels predicted how successful the diet would be.

Since there are relatively few dietary sources of the vitamin, sun exposure and fortified milk are both important to keeping blood levels of it sufficient. See articles below for  recommendations for D vitamin suppliments.

More Methods to Prevent Flu

  • Decreasing your intake of sugars and other simple carbohydrates. These have been proven to suppress the immune system by reducing the white blood cell count for up to 24 hours.
  • Drinking plenty of water…ideally, 8 cups a day
  • Getting plenty of sleep.
  • Washing your hands often, particularly if you are around people who may be sick.

  5. Great info Robin! I have been touting the benefits of Vitamin D for the past month, since I found some YouTube videos that link a lack of Vitamin D with all kinds of illnesses. I have also gotten a lot of good info from mercola.com.

One Dr. who has researched Vit. D extensively said that Vit. D is more like a hormone than a vitamin, and is very necessary for our bodies’ immunities.

    Another interesting fact:
The sunscreen that people use blocks the good rays, but allows the bad rays. It blocks out the sun rays that supply Vit. D to our bodies… Go figure, huh?
We have started using the Virgin Coconut Oil as a sunscreen.

Thanks for putting all this info here together!
I have been adding info to my health posts as I find them.

  7. Great information, it is also a good idea to not overdo the exercise. Too much can weaken your immune system making you more vulnerable to getting sick.
