But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Matthew 6:31-34

This has been a super week. We’ve been going to the Agriculture Center every day for the Bedford County Fair.
Tuesday night the Horse Whisperer spoke. We learned a lot about connecting with horses and working with them instead of against them.
Yesterday afternoon was 4H Youth Day. The participants played games, ran relay races, and took various agriculture classes (yes, it counts as school work!) Here are a few photos.

Christopher was timid with the chickens.

Egg Race

Small town - we bought our home from the family showing this calf.

Look at these happy faces.
We’re looking forward to the miniature donkey and mule shows on Saturday.

It’s Tackle it Tuesday.I tackled both of our barns with a leaf blower. We have an old wooden barn for our horses andlarge metal barn half enclosed for storage and half open for hay, tractor, etc.

I began cleaning and and organizing the horse barn and hanging hooks for tack. Our horses are being trained and due home this week. Since no one has been in the barn for a month it was gull of cob webs. I was using the broom to clean then had a light bulb moment and grabbed the leaf blower. Ir worked great and saved a lot of time and energy.
It worked so well I used it to “dust”a nd “sweep” our storage barn. I have a lot of shelves full of boxes. The leaf blower “dusted” all the shelves, the top pf my freezer, and swept the floor much faster than a broom. Then it was off to the patio to blow away all the dirt our two giant dogs drag in daily. It worked so well I’m keeping the leaf blower inside my laundry room to “sweep” the patio daily.

Several months back Fruit in Season’s blog had a post titled A Day in the Life where Christine mentioned she played Doodle Dice with her children. We are a game family so I looked it up and ordered it.
It has become my boys’ favorite game. Thank you, Christine, for telling us about Doodle Dice. The best part is that we can play together and the boys–now ages 7 and 8–can play alone.

In this fun family game the idea is to shake the six special doodle dice and use them to build the doodles pictured on the cards. The first player to create doodles from each of the deck colors wins. Two to four players. 6yrs+. Non-readers can play.
What’s your favorite family game?

It;s Tackle it Tuesday. My focus is on homeschooling during illness. We are reading in my bed a lot these days and catching up on weekends. I’m glad homeschooling is flexible. I’m so exhausted the trip from my bed to the bathroom takes 10 minutes to recover and I’m going downhill daily. I appreciate your prayers.
Homeschooling during illness is an opportunity to teach our children to wait on God. God promises that hardships can produce patient and unswerving endurance.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. nd this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5
I am taking a blogging break as I deal with these health issues. See Explaining My Blogging Absence.

Tackle it Tuesday
This morning we put together a toy box for our puppies’ toys. I purchased the kit for $20.00 from Collections Inc. It came partially assembled. The boards are lightweight and easy to put together with just a screwdriver. I allowed them to figure out the steps following the directions. I kept my mouth shut when they went ahead of the directions and had to go back and remove a side so the bottom would fit. The boys are very proud, they built almost all of it by themselves.

Not only am I counting this schoolwork, I’m also counting it as organization for Tackle it Tuesday meme.

Find out more about Tackle It Tuesday here.
The project can be little or big – whatever you want. Basically, Tackle It Tuesday is about giving ourselves incentive, deadlines and satisfaction in getting our household tasks done. (It doesn’t even have to be housework… just whatever is on your To Do list.)

Last week, I wrote about decorating cupcakes as a cure to cabin fever. This week we decorated sugar cookies. A few bottles of sprinkles and colored gel can supply hours of indoor fun. Here are a few photos from our official Cookie Day.

We’ve been taping (TiVo) episodes of Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth to watch in the evenings. After dinner and the dishes I asked the boys which episode they wanted to watch: Deep Oceans, Great Plains, or Caves. They voted on Great Plains.
The world’s plains are home to massive herds of animals. This episode reveals the grasslands of Mongolia and the flooding plains of Papua New Guinea, and finds amazing gatherings of creatures, such as East Africa’s wildebeest and clusters of rare grazers like the beautiful Mongolian gazelles. We all sat mesmerized at God’s creations.
About three-quarters into the show my 8-year-old says, “This is really good, mom, but where are the planes?” Of course this led to a discussion on homophones.
If you are watching these shows, there is a neat follow-up site to look up animals by habitat.

If you’re wondering about the pink and red tulips pictured around our home above, they are not a reality–yet. I chose this blog template because of I love tulips, we planted over 200 bulbs around our new TN home in November in hopes of a beautiful harvest this spring.
One morning after Bible study, my three youngest sons and I planted 200 tulip and daffodil bulbs. It was a special time of learning (We also put up an electric fence and quickly learned about electricity currents–a shock is a lesson not soon forgotten).
We discussed sowing and reaping while planting bulbs. This is one of God’s basic truths to teach us about life. Just as we planted bulbs to see daffodils in the spring, we plant God’s Word in our children’s hearts to reap a future harvest of fruit of the Spirit. God’s Word is alive, like a seed, full of unseen life. (more…)
