Creation: An Internet-Linked Unit Study

This Multilevel (grades 4-12), Bible-Focused, Heart of Wisdom Unit Study utilizes the Charlotte Mason approach, and the Internet!

Many Christians fail to realize that the events of Genesis are literal, are historical (particularly Genesis 1-11), and are foundational to all Christian doctrine. All Biblical doctrines of theology, directly or indirectly, ultimately have their basis in the book of Genesis.

A believing understanding of the book of Genesis is a prerequisite to an understanding of God and His meaning to man. If Genesis is only myth or allegory, then Christian doctrines have no foundation. Many Christians have added evolution to the Bible, resulting in a position that accepts God as Creator but restricts Him to the process of evolution.

This position is destructive to Christianity for many reasons.

Evolution permeates history, law, art, music, and sadly theology.Evolution is the new taproot of our education system.

The main principle of evolution is that man is capable of improving himself, of moving upward, of continuously progressing to higher and higher levels of achievement.

The evolutionist says that there are no absolutes, no laws, no rules, no roles, no standards of conduct.

Henry Morris said, Evolution is the root of atheism, of communism, nazism, behaviorism, racism, economic imperialism, militarism, libertinism, anarchism, and all manner of anti-Christian systems of belief and practice

“This is much more than a study of Creation –This is a study of Christianity versus humanism”

The only “weakness” (and what a weird one- not really a weakness at all) is that it IS, really, so fabulous that you could take forever before moving on. Creation was supposed to take about 4 weeks. We took 2 1/2 months appx. We LOVED it, and so delved off into many areas. We also read every resource, instead of picking only one or two. I wanted them to KNOW why and what for, in their memory, for good. So they could have these facts as second nature. Worked well. They can.
It’s strengths are first and foremost- it is a currciculum that is totally Bible based from a Hebrew standpoint, not a European/ American one(VERY important to our family). The Word is first and foremost in all things. From there you branch out and cover things. BUT only in light of (pun intended) His Word. There is truly no comparison. I could go on and on about HOW, we (me, my husband, and kids)really love it that much. Once you try it you will probably never go back. Nothing else will do as much, in such a way, in a Hebraic Bible frame of mind.

HOW’s Creation Unit Study was most definitely the best study we have ever done on this topic, and we have done many. Our oldest son, Joshua, the one at Ol’ Miss, has used many of the links for use in his Bible study on creation science that he leads. He is our family “expert” on creation science. He’s read nearly everything there is to read on Creation Science, and was really pleased with the quality of this study.

We have studied Creation and ancient history, but never like this before. I love how Robin has integrated God’s people into ancient history. We have studied Egypt, The Greeks, Mesopotamia, etc but I was always left wondering where God’s people were at and what they were doing during this time period. The curriculums we used gave us Biblical events and dates so we could see how the Bible lined up, but not really fitting it in with such detail. Now it’s like we are studying with new eyes! I think Robin has done a wonderful job.

We finished the Creation Unit and we will be starting Adam to Messiah this week. It looks very well written, and has many resources to choose from. We enjoyed the Creation Unit.(Evolution is a very confusing topic, I think Creation is actually easier to be

We have found that the science lessons take a varying amount of time to complete. My children are 10, 7 & 2, so I have to “water down” the lessons or explain things on their level. Some things are just way over their head, but we have loved every bit of it!

I am using the creation unit with my 11 yo, and though it is a wonderful study, I think it is best for the upper grades. What I HAVE found that is really great is that as I am going through the study along with my dear daughter, I am able to incorporate a lot of what I am learning into my general and day to day conversations with my 6 yo and 8 year old. As I didn’t have a good grasp on creation science myself, I think it is very helpful for me as a base of knowledge when my younger children have questions… They are developing a love for God’s creation.

subjects!!!

Does it really matter what you believe about creation? Well, not only does it matter, it’s also absolutely vital what we believe! I didn’t realize how vital it was until I became enthralled in the words so expertly authored …”Creation: An Internet Linked Unit Study” will provoke you to dig deeper into one of God’s most awesome acts, creation! There is no doubt; when you are finished reading this book you will not only know what you believe and why you believe it, you’ll also be able to defend it! It is only then, with this confidence, that we should begin teaching our children about a loving God who created everything with a purpose.Using this Ebook is easy and convenient. It also allowed more flexibility in our homeschool (and I can’t lose it!). It is very reasonably priced at $15.00. The Internet links alone are worth the price! With the purchase of Creation: An Internet Linked Unit Study you will receive a password to access the Ebook and all the resources available for the unit….

We just started using HOW and we love it! We had been using Abeka before. As soon as we found HOW we scrapped Abeka and started HOW immediately. We are now beginning our 3rd week and it has been fantastic! We started with the Creation Unit Study and are currently working on an online portfolio. My daughter is 8yo and does have some problems with the handwriting end of things. It’s a lot of work compared to Abeka. We cut down on the writing end of things and she types in a lot of the work herself instead of writing. So far we are looking into songs about creation, writing the story of creation in her own words, creating snacks that can be used to illustrate the story of creation for younger children, and planning a Rosh Hashanna dinner. Since my daughter has an interest in computers, we find a lot of our supplemental material online.

Some topics have been over my daughters head but we still discuss it. For example, we watched a Creation video from Moody. It has a vocabulary suitable for high school age students and above, but even so, my daughter understood what they were saying to us. We stopped the video from time to time and discussed any words she did not understand. Now she is using some of those words! I really do feel that, with some modifications, this unit study can be achieved with younger students.

You will definitely need to be more involved with your child’s learning if you do this curriculum but…..you will learn together, it’s hands on (which is exciting for a lot of kids), it’s fun, and you will incorperate many real life skills. I feel like I am getting the Christian education I never got as a child while making sure my daughter gets one! And last, but certainly not least, it is truly a Christ centered education. What I thought was Christ centered before doesn’t even compare.

We have loved it so far, though we are moving slowly through the material for greater retention of the truths. We have only been using the materials for 1 month. I believe HOW is an answer to prayer & it has been a great blessing to my family. We are using Creation & Wisdom currently. We are only a few lessons into it & already my 14 yr. old is planning to put a Creation Science Club together [there isn't one in our area] in order to encourage/ teach others the truth of a literal, 6 day Creation & its foundational importance. The units are teaching ME so much. The Wisdom unit has been very convicting & has led to many precious & invaluable discussions with my children.

I so appreciate the ease of use & the fact that HOW can be used in the way God leads a particular family using it. Because of this ability to flex to the family & be individualized, How keeps learning engaging & interesting rather than dry. Thank you Robin for all of the hard work you’ve put into HOW!

The Bible views man as a unified whole, never separating academic learning from spiritual wisdom. Is your homeschooling on the right path? Are you reaching for the right goal? It does not matter how hard you try or how diligent you are if you don’t have the right directions. Are you headed in the right direction?

Suppose you wanted to go to a city in Texas but you were given a map to Florida mislabeled Texas? Following the directions would not work even if you changed your tried harder, or increased your speed. You would still be lost! The problem is not your attitude or effort. The problem is you have the wrong map.

Many homeschoolers are following the wrong map on their homeschool journey. They follow the state standards, curriculum scope and sequence or SAT benchmarks. This unique unit study is a map to TRUE Wisdom.

A map is not a territory it is explanation of certain aspects of a territory. In this study you will learn that true wisdom is understanding and knowing God. The moment we understand and know God–we begin to see His holiness–we see His purposes, His love for men; we know who God is, so there’s never any hesitation to obey Him. By following this map to Wisdom you and your students will learn:

Get on the Right Path, NOW!

There are two ways to live life wisely or unwise. When we follow the path of wisdom the results are joy, peace, contentment, confidence and in the presence of God. The results of living unwisely are conflct, discouragement, disappointment, dissolution, and discontentment. Can you see this information is more important than any academics?

Every family who does the study will flavor it with their own character, so no two families will do it exactly the same—for instance, Robin suggests reading from an alternative resource called “Heart of the King” each day; some families might not order it, but we did and each day we do ONE verse and it has sparked such intensive conversation between the kids and me that we can spend nearly an hour on that part alone!
HOW is a provision of God to my family. I can’t tell you the number of times I have cried as it has ministered to my heart, how many times I have thanked God for a “curriculum” that integrates what I believe so strongly about education into one package, that it gives me a fleshed-
out skeleton to trim or add to as He leads, and still leaves me time to be a
mother.I tried doing unit studies before and while the kids loved them and learned from them, I was worn out by keeping up with planning and trying to locate/substitute books that were no longer in print or carried by the library. The fact that HOW puts God’s Word in its proper position of preeminence is the best part. It is natural to it, like breathing and so my kids are being bathed in it constantly. Since God’s Word is living and powerful and they are bathing in it, I expect to see some beautiful fruit : )

I love the Wisdom unit study! We have homeschooled for 9 years and this is the
best study we have experienced. Robin has developed an excellent Bible-based study and I appreciate her work so much.

Using HOW has been a life-changing experience for our entire family. We spend more time together in God’s Word and are growing in our understanding together! Learning Israel’s history has been a tremendous benefit to understanding all of history, past, present, and future. Also, learning about our Hebrew roots has brought new life to our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Science units are wonderful as well, tying it all together in the creation order. We are just beginning the Wisdom unit and are gleaning so much already. I know that God orchestrated HOW becoming part of our homeschooling.

We have loved it so far, though we are moving slowly through the material for greater retention of the truths. We have only been using the materials for one month. I believe HOW is an answer to prayer and it has been a great blessing to my family.
We are using Creation and Wisdom currently. We are only a few lessons into it and already my 14 year-old is planning to put a Creation Science Club together [there isn't one in our area] in order to encourage/teach others the truth of a literal, six-day Creation and its foundational importance. The units are teaching ME so much. The Wisdom unit has been very convicting and has led to many precious and invaluable discussions with my children.I so appreciate the ease of use and the fact that HOW can be used in the way God leads a particular family using it. Because of this ability to flex to the family and be individualized, HOW keeps learning engaging and interesting rather than dry. Thank you Robin for all of the hard work you’ve put into HOW!

I must say I’m thankful for this unit study, I realize that I am lacking wisdom and that the path I am on is definitely not going to lead me to it! So if I’m not on the correct path, how can I lead my children down the correct path? The answer is simple . . . I can’t. I must first change the direction of my path and, like little ducklings follow their mama, my children will follow me…This unit study is worth its weight in gold; not only will your children benefit from it, your whole family will benefit from it.

I’ve just read through all your on-line material and am very impressed. I home- schooled my 5 children for 14 years and used many of the resources you refer to. We used them to the best of our ability but you’ve integrated them so beautifully! I will be ordering them as I’m still home-schooling my 14 year-old son. I will certainly pass this site on to all my friends!

My parents bought the Wisdom unit study for me (I’m 16!) and in the nearly three lessons that I’ve done already, I am absolutely blown away!! Wisdom just has so much to it—and the extra books recommended are pretty heavy stuff too! But seriously, I doubt that there would be another unit of this depth and intensity as this one—Wisdom is just the best, and I’ve learned heaps!! Thank you so much for putting this out!

Cindy Pearson The unit study exceeded our expectations. Our son is 14. I have already recommended the study to several families. There were several things that we liked about the wisdom study. The study was very well organized, making it extremely “user friendly.”In particular I appreciated the way it facilitated personalizing the study. The introduction to each lesson and the variety of possible activities/projects was extremely helpful. Not only did the study help my son with his research and writing skills, I saw spiritual growth and maturity in him as well as in myself. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding one of the supplemental resources. We didn’t care for the videos from the series “Making a Decision that Lasts Forever!” Perhaps they would have been acceptable to some families but we objected to some of the images in the introductions and some of the comments.Beyond that the style was something we don’t care for in our family, but that would be a personal issue. Another resource that I found that you might want to consider adding is a book by Derek Leman and published by Lederer/Messianic Jewish Communications entitled, “Proverbial Wisdom and Common Sense.”

The Wisdom Unit Study exceeded my expectations. It is a great development of a worldview. The material is well presented and flexible. My child who is 15 is doing well at the unit. My 12 year old is not mature enough in her level of abstract thinking to deal with the issues.I am education co-ordinator for Spirit of Truth and we have made this unit a key unit in our core curriculum. The curriculum is excellent in its development of a Christian worldview. The unit frames future counselling around references to Mistress Wisdom and Mistress Folly.

I did the Wisdom study along with Adam to Abraham and Creation this year. I am homeschooling three of my boys ages 9, 15, & 17. I intended to use Wisdom as an elective for my high schoolers only but my 9 year old also enjoyed quietly listening to our conversations while we did this study. For those parents who use this, I would just recommend a private prayer time alone before teaching each lesson, because the material covered and the lessons learned are the most important for a parent to discuss with a child, especially older children who will soon be making their own decisions.I have to echo those that say this study is an answer to prayer. We only did this study twice a week because we always ended up spending many hours without stopping and it spilled over to what we had scheduled for the day. Be warned, once you start, you won’t want to stop to study anything else! I wouldn’t recommend that this study be used in whole for younger children, but you could do the study yourself and then paraphrase a smaller version or make parables for younger students, then revisit the study in whole when they are older, 8th grade on.

I can’t tell you what a blessing the Wisdom unit study has been to our family. It’s just what we needed to get back on track. We had drifted from our original goal to teach our children God’s ways. Our focus switched to academics, logic and Latin—of all things! The children really enjoy the lessons and look forward to them. We’ve all really enjoyed the Bible tidbits you link to on the Internet. I feel like I am now following God’s way and the burden has been lifted! It is true, His burden is light. When I stopped pursuing the world and got the right focus, school became much easier. God bless your work.

We started the Wisdom unit study about a month ago…my daughters are 15 and 17. Since we started using Heart of Wisdom several years ago, guess who’s learned the most? That would be me!!! Yes, my girls have learned much, too, but I am mostly convinced that God brought HOW into our lives to teach me, and the Wisdom unit is no exception. It’s not that I didn’t learn any of what’s in there before, but it is so well-organized and in-depth that I am re-learning and being added to with its content. Plus, it is so timely with all the major (and minor) decisions in our lives this year. I am working ahead in the unit on my own and so appreciating its input in my life. It is an amazing unit study and I am so thankful for its part in “our” curriculum.

This unit study looks awesome. .. I have gone through much of the material and can highly recommend its use in the homeschool as well as for youth groups in a congregational setting or family devotional type learning setting. I really was bowled over when I saw the material I received for the money I paid. This was a real bargain in value learned versus value spent.

My husband and I were highly satisfied and impressed with the Wisdom Unit Study. This is the first HOW unit study that we have used so far, and we are just finishing it now. We thought it was quite comprehensive, without being “bogged down” or over-done. We were especially impressed with the wealth of suggested resources, and, of course, the INTERNET RESOURCES — WOW! Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing such a thorough job!

It really communicated to me, who has been a homeschooling mom/teacher/disciple for 9 years that you seem to TRULY CARE about this, rather than just putting something together to sell.Only one wish: that it would incorporate the younger children a bit more. However, we just included them and made projects for them at their level, and it was fine. Truthfully, the Wisdom study was just as much a learning tool for my husband and I (if not MORE) as it was for the children. It was a timely tool in the Lord’s hands for our family!

The Wisdom Unit Study is wonderful. I am getting through it slowly but I have enjoyed it so far. My children are 13, 9, 6, and 2 but I am using the study right now for myself. It has really made me think. I have loved the reading so far. I have read through and thought about things that I have just skimmed over in the past. I think this is a great study not just for children but for the adults. I have learned so much for myself. I also plan on doing the other studies as well.

Everyone I talk to tells what a bargain Heart of Wisdom studies are. My goodness, in Wisdom alone I have downloaded enough web sites to be well worth purchasing a book that costs $40-50, rather than the $15 you sell this at…worth its weight in gold.

The first section explains how we have been conditioned to believe the state is competent to assess our children’s intelligence! You’ll learn how different a Christian world view is and how to RENEW your mind to get rid of this “public education mentality.” Includes a look at the Greek history of state education compared to history of Biblical education. The Hebrews focused on the home. Worship, family and academics were taught in the home, not separated subjects in individual locations. The home was more important then the synagogue. The center of all life– religious, education, and training–was the home.

Section III explains a new teaching approach (based on a combination of several effective approaches) called The Heart of Wisdom. The Heart of Wisdom teaching approach is centered around reading the Bible through in one year and the creation of a Bible portfolio. The Bible is the main focus and the core of the curriculum, with the secondary focus dedicated developing writing skills using the “writing to learn” method. The H.O.W. approach leads progressively to a renewed mind and to a self-chosen commitment to a life of intellectual and moral integrity. You can use this approach as explained, or adapt it to the methods and curriculum you are using.

I feel I must share this and pass on what has been a blessing to me. After much contemplation and reasoning (excuses) children are older (5th & 7th), already have resources of this nature, do I really need another book like this, etc., I listened to my heart (and confessed again all the money I had wasted on curriculum out of fear) and bought the book – What Your Child Needs to Know When. The main reason it appealed to me was because of all the descriptions telling how it had been revised and expanded and included not so much what the state expects, but first and foremost what and how the Lord wants our families focused on and the biblical model of learning and the education of our children. This book is great!!! The bibliography is excellent– I had already read some of the books and found more I would like to read, but Mrs. Sampson has pulled all these resources together for a convicting, mind-renewing read that leaves one not only informed, but challenged and focused on the Lord for His perfect direction for our children– their hearts and mind and education. If you’ve not yet been exposed to this kind of thinking, then this is an excellent resource to read. If you have already been exposed to this kind of thinking and the renewing and growing is ongoing, then this is an excellent book to read. I am blessed that I live in a state where achievement testing is not mandatory, but I still will have use and value for the evaluation lists. But even if you never use any of this information, the first half of the book which is what I have thus described is worth every cent. If you keep a list of items you either want to purchase or look at book fairs, etc., this is one to put on that list! If someone needs more information, I’ll be glad to give it.

I recently bought and received your book What Your Child Needs to Know When. I have to tell you that it is much more than the catalogs describe it as. I have been wanting to run our school days in a different way (with more emphasis on scripture), but didn’t really know how to change my rigid-schedule-ways, and didn’t have the courage to do so for a long time. Even though most of our curriculum (if not all of it) is Biblically-based, (we even use Far Above Rubies for our 7th grade daughter) it just wasn’t enough for me, or at least not the way that I wanted things. It has seemed to me in the past that if I didn’t run a tightly scheduled ship, that things would run amuck, get out of hand, and that the kids just didn’t seem to get their things done by the end of the day when left to work at their own pace. To avoid seeing some child aimlessly walking around, or wasting time, I decided long ago that we would have a schedule to go by to keep them focused. However, I have never really liked it! I want to be Spirit-led in my schooling. I have read some things that started me thinking of how I could get going in the direction I so desired. The thing that helped me do it was your book! I loved the philosophy of teaching and the example of what a typical day might be like for you. God must have really got a hold of me then and things have been really different in our house! If we weren’t done with Bible by 8:30 before, I would announce it was time for math! (Sad, Huh?) Now, we start Bible maybe by 8 or 8:30 and sometimes go until 10 or 10:30! And the most exciting thing about it is that after Bible ( worship, and memory verses, and much discussion), the kids seem to go on their way and get their work done better and more quickly than before. It has been astounding to me that they get done sooner than before! Thank you for being obedient to the Lord and for being an example to me. My husband and I are first generation Christians, and I am always blessed by Titus 2 kind of women, even after being a believer for 17 years, married for 14, and with four children of my own. Also, after all of the stuff on the loop awhile back about the lesson plans… I like them… thank you! I do have trouble picking though because all the options are so good!

I loved the “What Your Child Should Know When” book. I was feeling more and more freedom as a Mom/Educator and growing to understand even more fully, WHO I AM as a Christian! (Geez, I’m 38, it takes soo long, it seems)…
I have recommended these materials to mothers over and over and over! I love going deeper with my girls in the Word. This was lacking terribly for our first 3 years, but I didn’t really ‘get’ what was discouraging me so. Now, I feel a real sense of purpose, vision and accomplishment. I praise God for how we are growing. I know we are just scratching the surface on all He has to teach and show us. Worship time is also very important to us, and that has gotten put aside a little for this, so i need balance. …. We just love it!

I purchased this book after discovering another book by the same author, titled: “A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays.” This book was such an inspiration to me and helped me to re-evaluate my curriculum choices. For fans of Charlotte Mason and Ruth Beechick, this is a must read! For everyone else considering homeschooling, this book will introduce you to a God-centered method of educating your children, while ensuring you have guidelines to meet state educational standards at the same time.

I bought your “What Your Child Needs to Know When”updated, years ago and recently brought it down to reread it. I didn’t have benefit of reading the first edition but appreciate your admitting to stepping down from earlier conceptions of what is acceptable, grade level, even Biblical or Greek in reference to those timetables we all have whirling in our heads. One confirmation God often gives me that I am plodding along the path intended for my family (OK perhaps not the path but at least on the map somewhere) is continued revelation to just how faulty my conception of education is was and continues to be and how HE continues to encourage my enlightenment despite my relentless insistence on using the compass rose of others. Thanks again Robin!

Well, glory be to God! I am very encouraged by all these great reviews. I am getting very excited about the fact that my children our comming out of public school and the one year we did homeschool before I had to go to work…well, I didn’t have any money and I prayed asked God “what do i do to teach them”? He told me to use the Bible! “That will get you revelating”! I’m still poor, but God knows how to provide and I will be ordering your book “What Your Child Needs to Know and When” as soon as I possibly can. Please, pray for us as we are preparing to have our precious gifts home with me again full-time. The home is truly the God given place for learning. Fact! I can hardly wait Robin, and I haven’t even read it yet! Love and Prayers..Joy

One is said to need to run in another’s shoes in order to be qualified to judge them. But…
my summary of Robin’s fine book, What Your Child Needs to Know When, is in the form of a running metaphore: When you are challenged by the world to compete in its race, don’t fall to thinking that you ought best use shoes, track, stopwatch, and finish line, that are approved by the world. The world’s standards are both wrong and too low.

I’ve been home schooling for 20 years and I didn’t fully realize why God wanted me to home school until I got your material. I still have several children at home so I’m excited that I can spend time with them learning what God wants us to learn and that is more in depth in His Word!

I didn’t realize what the book What Your Child Needs to Know When was all about when I bought it. What can I say…curriculum shopping with 4 children. The book is so much mroe than I was expecting. I haven’t even actually “read” it….I read the first chapter and then skimmed through the rest of the book and just WOW! I think this is for which I have been desperately searching.I have really been looking for something that would teach all of us (children and parents) how to fully integrate our beliefs into everything…making the Bible the basis…not just merely an occasional inflection or stand-alone-ish subject.Anyway, I am really excited about the things I have seen so far in the book.

1.This book’s focus is on Bible history, as opposed to most ancient-history studies (even many Christian-based texts), which concentrate on the pagans in ancient times, ignoring God’s people. For example, in this book’s Ancient Egypt Unit the focus is on Joseph, Moses, the Exodus, and God’s people (rather than on the pyramids and gods of Egypt). Our Ancient Greece and Rome units focus on the Israelites fighting against idolatry under Greek and Roman rule (rather than on Greek mythology and Roman gods). We also include an in-depth unit study of Ancient Israel.2.This book is much more than a basic history study: It is a thematic unit study. You will lead your student(s) chronologically on a fascinating journey through the Bible as they learn to study, write, research, Literature, Government, Composition, Agriculture, Religion, Science, Economics, and more. As your students study, they will have a number of valuable experiences. They will write essays, summaries, and editorials. They will have the opportunity to publish their work online. They will dramatize and teach others. These activities will develop their ability to think, which is an asset that will benefit them throughout their lives.

“Bible First! Yes, even with history! I love this program for many reasons but this is #1. I think I may be like some home school moms who want to integrate Bible with our daily lessons, but somehow it keeps getting squeezed out by the world’s definition of the ‘necessary’. Robin Sampson has refocused my vision and made me see how truly possible it is to incorporate and make a priority of studying the Bible along with our other subjects…Every time I open this binder I get excited. The potential and the possibilities for learning just jump out at me every time. For those who love classical education, or Charlotte Mason advocates, any of the units in this binder would supply you with ample materials for a good long while…” . click to see full review

Eclectic Homeschool Online

Masterfully authored by Robin Samson, Ancient History: Adam to Messiah offers 787 pages of the most exciting, challenging, real life, Biblical learning adventures divided into 7 unit studies that are sure to transport both teacher and student back to when time began!…Using The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach and the Internet you can open the minds, and more importantly the hearts, of your 4th – 12th grade students to God’s Word as never before. While covering a time frame from Creation through the time of Christ, they will learn how to study, write, research, and reason through a wide variety of subjects such as Bible, world history, geography, literature, government, composition, agriculture, religion, science, economics, and art history. click to see full review

At 787-pages, this single volume is loaded with information…I applaud Robin’s courage in creating a curriculum that challenges popular wisdom about what students should learn. She also offers plenty of suggestions—more than you can use in a single year—for resources and activities so you can tailor the study as you please and meet the needs of each of your children…”

“With the current interest in classical studies and their chronological history studies, many Christian homeschoolers are wondering to what degree studying the cultures of the ancient world should be included in their curricula. Concerned about the pagan worldview upon which the Greeks and Romans based their beliefs and practices, homeschoolers are torn between academic excellence and honoring God’s command to have nothing to do with paganism… Heart of Wisdom units present history from a biblical worldview based on bible narratives with corresponding global events…Robin Sampson has created an excellent curriculum. The introductory information explaining how to use the book is concise and easy to understand, and the layout of the book is consistent and well-organized. Ancient History: Adam to Messiah is a refreshing unit study curriculum that will delight anyone interested in history unit studies with a biblical worldview…”

The reason I like this Ancient History study is because it covers a time frame from creation through the ministry of Jesus and includes a study of ancient Israel. I like the mixture of using print resources with resources available on the internet. I am looking forward to seeing the remaining units as they are completed…We have already begun our study of the world using this curriculum and the suggested resources. It is easy to use and well laid out.

“Your work is brilliant!!! I have researched your work for the past few months. I like to use the Charlotte Mason method and find your curriculum MOST informative… ”

“We have studied ancient history, but never like this before… We have studied Egypt, The Greeks, etc but I was always left wondering where God’s people were at and what they were doing during this time period…Now it’s like we are studying with new eyes…”

“She [our daughter] spends hours a day on her assignments. She has learned so much about God and his word and His world…”

“…You have done a fantastic job creating a God centered history curriculum..”

“The books Robin has written and the resources that are shared within HOW are phenomenal..”

“I was drawn to these studies because of the focus on the Bible. But quite honestly, what is keeping me is the quality of content and the ease in lesson preparation!!”

“I have found that using H.O.W. has developed in my daughter a love of the bible and has made a great change in her I knew I would love the material because of my life-changing experiences with the other books by Robin. I love going deeper with my girls in the Word…I feel a real sense of purpose, vision & accomplishment.”

“…My children and I LOVE it. I have never seen anything quite like it. It is so wonderful to be able to use something where the children (and myself!) not only research historical events, but discover scriptural truth and evidence in them also. It is so fascinating! ”

“I L-O-V-E it. I am praising God for this marvelous curriculum!”

Author: Excited!
HOW is the best curriculum I have ever seen and/or used in the secular or Christian homeschool market- bar none! Nothing compares to it at all!! According to the kids- and me! However, it is tied in popularity- according to our children, not just me-with one other Hebrew based curriculum that had activities more to their liking (not so much writing all the time, every lesson, but more visual things ready made, to aid them), but it does not use internet links, which we LOVE. So we blend both curriculums together when possible. Thus we will continue to use HOW. It is extremely comprehensive in it’s coverage of a subject. Nothing is left out. Plus- you don’t have to buy any key resource books if you cannot afford it. You can use the internet links and still cover everything in detail! So it is quite economical for families with small budgets. THAT is liberating in itself! We loved all the internet links. There was no way you could NOT learn, or miss something with the abundance of links for each e-book. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for the truth in history/ science told in a non-threatening way. Not doctrinal teachings, but the actual truth, no matter where that leads for your children and you. And what could be more Biblical than that? The Bible incorporated into daily FIRST readings, as the primary curriculum, was the best thing we have ever done for our children. The perfect way to start a day, instead of trying to fit it in as a small subject. IT IS the subject, then all else falls in around it. And as Robin said once, if you get nothing else done that day, at least the most important thing has been finished. THAT is what we want for our children. The firmest foundation possible.

My daughter (10th grade) never thought she would like unit studies. I convinced her to give HOW a shot and now she is begging for more. She spends hours a day on her assignments. She has learned so much about God and his word and His world. Thanks…

…great overall experience. You have done a fantastic job creating a God centered history curriculum. My kids are never very excited to study history, but when we start to get into it, they all seem really take an interest, & have learned so much…

We have studied ancient history, but never like this before… We have studied Egypt, The Greeks, etc but I was always left wondering where God’s people were at and what they were doing during this time period…Now it’s like we are studying with new eyes

I am overjoyed to find Hebrew definitions and meanings included in the lesson studies. I know that God intends for my family to apply His Word in every part of our lives. Never was there an intention that we separate education and spirituality…

I love Heart of Wisdom. I am so grateful to the Lord for bringing this program to my attention. Your web site has also prodded me toward learning about Hebrew roots and Biblical Holidays. I feel like I’m entering a whole new world in my relationship to the Lord. I am using HOW as the history program for my 11 year old and we are learning so much together. My high school son is using HOW for his Bible curriculum. It will take my younger son 2 or 3 years to complete and my older son only has 1 year left of school so he will finish it in one year. I am so excited to be putting this material into both boys hearts so that they can have God’s wisdom and make wise decisions for their life. Thank you so much for this program! It is making a big difference in our lives.

I used Sonlight as a beginning homeschooler and appreciated the layout of timing & material usage (& the wonderful books), however; the H.O.W. focus point reaches for a greater depth in the study of and relationship with God that is precious to my soul and to the heart and focus of my family. THIS (H.O.W.)is the way the Creator of my family has beckoned my heart to rear these children I’m blessed to have. Thank you, Robin, for obeying the Creator in your responsibility with H.O.W. so that I, in turn, can obey Him in my responsibility with my children. This curriculum achieves the high hope my heart held for our homeschooling experience and my personal experience as a mother and an ever-learning believer. Importantly, too, lessons are already planned out for easy preparation. What a joy I count it all!

I wanted to let you know just how much I appreciate the “Ancient History: Adam to Messiah” unit study. My children and I LOVE it. I have never seen anything quite like it. It is so wonderful to be able to use something where the children (and myself!) not only research historical events, but discover scriptural truth and evidence in them also. It is so fascinating! Some day, when my life slows down a bit, I would like to do what my son is doing in your book. Thank you so much for the time and effort you spent in putting this together. This is a great curriculum! We have been putting together our own bible based unit studies for years. This year due to health problems and less time we would have to purchase something already laid out. I thought I would have to settle for a lesser curriculum. I have easily adapted it to include our younger students too! Thanks

I am using HOW with one daughter now (age 14) and another (age 13) will soon join her. I love it. It is so versatile both in use for different ages and in activities for different learning styles, etc. It is the first Bible study plan that I have stuck with for more than a week or two. Plenty of variety in this area too. The lessons are well-written and offer many resources, both books and Internet, so there’s no trouble finding information for research. The web site gives lots of ideas for simplifying it for younger students too as well as tons of good info on educational philosophy which I love reading and rereading!

Using HOW has been a life-changing experience for our entire family. We spend more time together in God’s Word and are growing in our understanding together! Learning Israel’s history has been a tremendous benefit to understanding all of history, past, present, and future. Also, learning about our Hebrew roots has brought new life to our relationship with God thru Jesus Christ. The Science Units are wonderful as well, tying it all together in the creation order. We are just beginning the Wisdom Unit and are gleaning so much already. I know that God orchestrated HOW becoming part of our homeschooling.

My 16 year old has always been in Christian school until last year. He has always struggled to learn and hated school. Last year I saw him beginning to rebel like so many others his age. I did Abeka last year at home with him and he hated it too. All summer I searched the web for something better and when I finally ran across the Heart of Wisdom web site, I felt my spirit dance inside me. I knew in my spirit that this is what the Lord wanted me to do. So this year I began my son, a junior on your program and he is thriving. His moods are better. He does his school work without being asked and is eager to do it. He does not argue hardly at all. He got grounded for not finishing some work and when I told him he could not go out with his friends until he finished his work, he did not argue or nothing(it was 4 days). It just goes to show that when we do things the Lords way He blesses us. I thank God for all the work you have done on this and will be doing. May God bless you and all your gifts to His work!!

I first heard about HOW from a book called “The Things We Wish We’d Known” I was depressed with what I thought were my curriculum options, and was looking for some encouragement. I found your article and immediately used the address listed in the back of the book to find your books. Read as much as I could, prayed about making this huge change in our schooling. It’s frightening to toss out the textbooks. We have loved the change to HOW curriculum, I wish I had made this change years ago. I have always wanted to teach this way, but I was afraid of my own short-comings. I was afraid I didn’t have the knowledge that it would take to successfully teach my children without textbooks. We had started a timeline, but it sat undone because we didn’t know where to find the resources to complete it. We started studying and celebrating the Biblical feasts; you gave us the nudge we needed to have a full experience of the feasts, without feeling like we were neglecting our school studies. We are thrilled with the change to HOW, school is finally the way of life we had wanted it to be. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for all of the time and energy that you have put into this work, so that other mom’s can be a success.

I love the Hebraic focus. HOW Ancient History is very complete, easy to use and we love the Hebrew vocabulary lessons. We already had a few of the resources. (Writer’s Express, Beechick, Kingfisher) I have circulated this through our homeschooling support group and you have subsequently gotten a lot of exposure and three orders of “What your child needs to know when”, and another HOW unit study order. Thank you for excellent resources!!

What has absolutely helped me more than anything else is the 4 step lessons applied to our Bible time. I LOVE setting aside the first hour and a half each day to pray, worship, and study together. Our children are 7, 8 and 9 (almost 10), and their 4th step includes writing assignments, penmanship, dictation, map work, drawing, coloring, study of additional resources, and the occasional “project,” such as a diorama, salt dough map, or role play. THANK YOU for challenging us to use the Bible as the “heart” of our studies. By the way, we only get through a chapter or two each day, but that works for us…we figure we’ll finish the Bible in about 5 years! We are using the NIV for now so that everyone can help in the reading.

It has been a terrific resource for my own study which, in my opinion, is without question the most undermentioned area of homeschooling across the board for new and seasoned homeschoolers alike. Had I had this year’s I am certain my approach toward “unschooling” would have been much less a factor, though honestly I am thankful I did it that way, then plowed on forward into my own understanding of “education.” I knew this was what God had intended for me after a very short time on your web site. I may not utilize all lessons or resources with my kids, but those we do are memorable to all of us. His timing is certainly not mine, come to think of it…and in all likelihood I would have had very unrealistic expectations on myself and my two children if I had found this earlier… I bought your What Your Child Needs to Know When;updated, years ago and recently brought it down to reread it.

As an author, publisher, homeschool mother, and educator, I am thrilled to see the completion of NURTURING THE WRITE RELATIONSHIP.

I was excited as soon as I saw the words “A Family Writing Lifestyle.” Mary Ann shares valuable insights not only about writing itself, but about passing on the gift of written expression as a family tradition . What a gift to pass on to your children —the ability to capture insights, record memories, and relate perceptions and feelings.

The importance of teaching your children to write cannot be overstated. Skillful writers influence society. Christian writers have the privilege of encouraging, teaching, and strengthening others to have a closer relationship with God. The late Dr. Paul Bubna, former President of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, wrote,

“It may be true that a picture is worth a thousand words, but we must not miss the fact that writing words has a unique power all its own. Something powerful happens to the person who writes the words. It is one thing to think the thought, it is quite another to put it into words and see it on paper, or even a computer screen. That process opens a door of intimacy with one’s self that may be unmatched any other way.”

Our spiritual lives, our success in the work world, and our social networks all require the skill of writing. Writing skills are vital in today’s changing culture. Written communication declined during the age of the telephone but with the development of the computer people are writing again in the form of emails and blogging (on line journaling).

In my book, The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach, I encourage parents to teach their children to write to learn, also known as writing across the curriculum. Mary Ann embraces the same concept because she understands how writing helps to generate thoughts and to organize them logically and concisely. Writing can bring experiences, thoughts and opinions together. We write to express ideas, share stories, document history, imagine the future, express love, and dispense humor. When students tackle a subject, they can experiment with different techniques and strategies for writing. They discover new ideas, new ways of thinking and new methods of expressing themselves. When you teach your children to document their thoughts, feelings, and ideas on paper, you are equipping them with a gift they will use for a lifetime. Mary Ann demonstrates the practical steps to develop this type of writing into a family lifestyle.

This book will be a useful guide for any teacher and especially beneficial to homeschoolers. Most homeschoolers are fond of Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophies which emphasize real-life activities over academic exercises. Mary Ann agrees with Mason explaining how writing assignments that are viewed as academic exercises cause the child to lose the adventure of writing. Mason’s admirers will appreciate how Mary Ann’s unique approach is in agreement with Mason’s philosophy “… we believe that children’s’ minds are capable of digesting real knowledge, so we provide a rich, generous curriculum that exposes children to many interesting, living ideas and concept.” Mary Ann will show you how families working on individual and joint writing projects can motivate children to catch the excitement of relevant writing and come to understand that the art of writing is a powerful life tool.

I became eager to try out Mary Ann’s methods when I read how she taught her children to write using a real-life approach following the rules of an adult writing group. She posed as a mock publisher to lead her children through the writing process from query letters to contracts and finished publications, complete with book signings, and marketing techniques. What a great idea! About a dozen years ago when my grown children were young and learning to write they each created a book using Creating Books with Children by Valerie Bendt as a guide. Through the creation of their books they learned the writing, illustrating, editing processes but they never learned the query and submission processes . Here we are over a decade later writing again, with my youngest children, using Mary Ann’s ideas. I look forward to adding more finished writing products to my somewhat yellowed and faded but treasured papers of childhood thoughts, stories, inspiration, opinions, and beliefs to our
family files.

Although Mary Ann emphasizes forming a writing group, this is only one segment of her collection of ideas. This book contains much more. You will also learn how writing activities and rituals can be woven through the day, year, and even throughout life. Activities include ideas for family journaling, letter writing, Bible journaling, goal journaling, celebration journaling, apology letters, thank-you notes, and even writing to deal with loss and grief. This book is not about the educational nuts and bolts of writing, but is intended to celebrate and inspire writing in the home. Nurturing a Write Relationship will help you develop a family writing lifestyle and tradition.

Section I teaches you the importance of creating a safe place to write, allowing children to experiment with language. Children will become confident writers when they receive support and encouragement as they move through the writing process.

Section II details writing education principles. Mary Ann explains how to learn from great writers and how to be a writing mentor to your children. She also dispels several writing myths.

Section III explains the publishing process for a writing group from vision to revision to the completed process.

Section IV encourages you to develop a family writing lifestyle with family rituals, traditions, and celebrations and investigates a Biblical view of writing.

Section V includes many ideas for integrating writing into daily life and closes with the twelve writing principles of a family writing lifestyle.

Mary Ann’s book is full of several first-rate unique ideas to teach children to write that make writing a fun family experience. She provides an attractive combination of solid advice and clever insights on how to motivate and cultivate your children’s writing. I’m giving this book to each of my grown children to support them in their efforts to teach their children to write. I hope your family will spend time developing a family writing lifestyle. I promise it will be time well spent and the benefits are many.

If you’re looking for a book that will help you celebrate and inspire writing at home, then NURTURING THE WRITE RELATIONSHIP is a must have! In this creative piece, you won’t find formal instructions on the nuts and bolts of teaching writing, but instead you’ll find valuable insight on the hows and whys of writing!

BACK COVER

Wonderfully written by Mary Ann Froehlich, NURTURING THE WRITE RELATIONSHIP will draw you into the magical world of writing from the heart in the safe place we call home. From the very beginning, Froehlich gives the reader insight into her own personal world of writing and encourages readers to stop reading at any given point so that they can start writing. She also inspires writers to keep trying, as she cites examples of famous authors who didn’t experience instant success.

The book is based on a homophone (words that sound the same but are spelled in various ways):

WRITE—Understand the importance and develop the use of the written word

RITE—Understand the importance of cultivating rituals in family life

RIGHT— Understand the importance of communication in developing right relationships

Froehlich believes that the adventure of writing is lost when writing assignments are viewed as academic exercises. Instead, she introduces exercises for writers, such as journaling, letters, memoirs and more. Her “10 Principles for Effective Writing,” similar to the Suzuki method of teaching music skills, is concise and intuitive.

“If you only remember one statement from this book, let this be it: As a parent, you are your child’s most influential writing mentor. You are the example.” Froehlich expresses this concept about mentors throughout the book. With an approach that refuses to stereotype individuals’ methods of writing, Froehlich encourages writers to express their God-given ability to use the power of words to deal with everything in life, from grief to celebration!

In addition to giving creative advice on how to nurture writing within the home, Froehlich provides valuable resources for writing groups and teachers, including an excellent exercise for teachers to use in their classes with young writers that takes them through the entire publishing process from query letters to sales and marketing.

Interspersed with quotes about writing, NURTURING THE WRITE RELATIONSHIP is a treasure for anyone who longs to write.

I’ve read this book and it is overflowing with excellent ideas for incorporating writing into every day life. One of my favorite parts is where she explains the book publishing process – what a great idea and motivator to get kids writing. The 10 educational principles of writing were new to me and very thought provoking, such as treating the young writer as a working author by giving him an audience. Isn’t that what we do with music students? We give them an arena to display their talents through a recital. Young writers need a similar showcase for their talents. I also love the lists of special days she provides(and there are tons) to celebrate through writing. Lots of scope for the imagination as Anne Shirley would say I highly recommend it.

Genesis 12-50 is the ancestral story. The focus of this unit study is on Genesis 1-12 revealing Jesus in Genesis!Genesis 1-12 stories include the divine act that brings humanity and history into existence, and enables humanity to exist, multiply, diversify, and disperse upon the earth.

It is the story of how God creates a world that is good, but that becomes corrupted by sin, which enters the world through human disobedience. Adam and Eve ate fruit which was forbidden to them, and Cain murdered his brother Abel.

God later commanded Noah to build an ark in which pairs of all living things were preserved from the great flood which God sent to purge the earth. God set the rainbow as a remembrance of His covenant with Noah. Afterward, people began building a tower that would reach to heaven in order to make a name for themselves, but God confused their speech and scattered them. God again appointed a man, Abraham, with whom to establish His covenant.

I L-O-V-E it. I am praising God for this marvelous curriculum! I am thanking Him for your steadfastness and dedication! Thank you to you, too! This is just what I have been looking for, and I am thrilled to have it available to us!! There is no labor that isn’t a thousand times more than planned—I just know that you will be reaping HUGE blessings from your labors with HOW for a l-o-n-g time to come. On the days that it really gets too much— PLEASE remember what a HUGE blessing you are giving many sincere moms who are VERRRRRRRRRRRRRY grateful and thanking God for your work!

This is one of the best out there. My daughter and I both are in love with this study. I like the fact that there are no studies on the false gods of the ancient world and there are so many choices on the different assignments. This is what hooked us in. I can only hope that the other units are ready when we need them. I highly recommend this! Even if you have never done units before, you can pick this one up and do it.

I have found that using HOW has developed in my daughter a love of the Bible and has made a great change in her character development…and there are so many things that catch her interest…gives us a sense of focus…

I love the Hebraic focus. HOW Ancient History is very complete, easy to use and we love the Hebrew vocabulary lessons. We already had a few of the resources (Writer’s Express, Beechick, Kingfisher). I have circulated this through our homeschooling support group and you have subsequently gotten a lot of exposure and three orders of “What Your Child Needs To Know When”
and another HOW unit study order. Thank you for excellent resources!!

I have just begun to use HOW for first year history—and I LIKE it A LOT! I searched for a year, to a year and a half, for a Hebraic homeschooling method. The Lord definitely led us to you and we are thankful and excited! I struggled on my own before, but now I have in my hands what I need and a suggested course of direction that we alter as the Lord leads. This year has definitely started off much better than in the past and we look forward to the remainder of the year! We are looking to purchase the Creation unit study shortly. Thank You!!!

His timing is certainly not mine, come to think of it…and in all likelihood I would have had very unrealistic expectations on myself and my two children if I had found this earlier…

I bought your What Your Child Needs to Know When;updated, years ago and recently brought it down to reread it.

In her characteristically thorough style, Robin Sampson has done it again! With her 4 E’s: Excite, Examine, Expand and Excel, she leads the student through each lesson of learning about God, creation, resource usage, vocabulary, writing, graphic organizers, communication, portfolio presentation and more. Not only does she show the resources needed for this study, she has researched an abundance of user-friendly, safe internet websites to help the student learn even more. From Creation, through Eden and the Fall , the Flood, the great Tower of Babel, Nations and Religions, Abram, and Genesis’ revelation of the Messiah, this unit includes hands-on learning, paper “dolls” and loads of ideas to help us learn. Originally written for grades 4-12, revisions include activities for K-3. For those interested in a biblically based unit, this one has it all!

We started Adam to Abraham this week and, boy, are we having a great time! The first day I introduced the HOW curriculum to my kids (13ds, 11dd, 7dd, 5ds), we put all of the books in the middle of the table and let them “finger” and leaf through them as I talked. They spent an hour just looking in the books! They even marked the pages they were on so that they could come back. They were excited as I read Robin’s hs story to them and shared with them that that is also our story. I have let the main thing stop being the main thing. I have been convicted, God led me to HOW online and we are beginning anew this year.

Today we made a lapbook with the younger kids to help solidify the story that we read today in Scripture. They took them to my in-laws house and shared what they had learned with them. It is exciting to see them soak up the Bible and moving to see my older kids search through Bible tools to answer questions.

Thanks to Robin for a wonderful curriculum that focuse on His word and brings all of us together instead of in separate rooms doing workbooks! After 5 years of hsing, I feel “freed” from workbooks and their enslavement.

Homeschool Magazine Review

Robin Sampson has put together a jewel of a package. This approach is written to appeal to many different learning methods using Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of learning, her own Bible first philosophy, and the biblical Hebraic method of education. The creative way of melding Charlotte Mason and the four basic learning styles has produced a approach that is truly a conduit to life-long learning. Robin gently leads us to this place of light yet highly encourages delight-directed learning at the same time. When you ignite a spark of interest in your child, lay aside the schedule/timetable and watch them fly! Children who are learning by choice will retain and enjoy so much more than those who are forced to study topics of no interest to them. There are comprehensive helps on making timeline books and portfolios, all with lots of illustrations and examples. Robin has obviously spent time in prayer and more prayer while she prepared these studies. Her writings are thoughtful, insightful and joyful and have been a labor of love from her whole family, I’m quite sure! Enjoy the four-steps—Excite, Examine, Expand, and Excel! You may never go back to any other way of learning.–Heidi Shaw, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

Cookbook Analogy

The simplest way to understand the Heart of Wisdom teaching approach is to compare it to a cookbook of recipes. I have worked on several recipes for over fifteen years; I have altered the ingredients, measurements and methods for these recipes over the years, and finally came up with nourishing and satisfying results. You can use my recipes as outlined, or adapt them to your family’s preferences.

This cookbook not only provides the recipes but also explains the background of the ingredients and cooking methods to help you make the best use of them. A recipe consists of combining a number of individual ingredients that may not ordinarily be thought of being put together, resulting in new dish. The Heart of Wisdom teaching approach is a combination of several different methods and resources. A cookbook and a teaching approach are both resources which include many kinds of information—from ingredients and sources, to proportions, methods of mixture and preparation, to particular kinds and uses of utensils.

The Main Recipe: Daily Study of God’s Word

The main recipe is an outline for making God’s Word the primary focus of the school day. The chief ingredient is the Bible. This recipe provides step-by-step methods (chronological readings divided into four steps) of mixture and preparation, to particular kinds and uses of utensils (Bible study tools), but does not provide exact measurements. The recipe is more like a grandmother’s rough-guide cooking instruction, “a little bit of this, a pinch of that.” The purpose of this recipe is to serve as an inspiration to the parent/teacher by presenting a variety of teaching ideas.

Side Dish Recipes: Unit Studies Based on God’s World

The other recipes include instructions on how to study God’s world through history, science, and life skills unit studies. The Bible is the most important ingredient for each of these recipes as well. Using these recipes you will be able to teach the following subjects: Bible, history, science, geography, composition, agriculture, religion, government, economics, and many more. The methods of mixture and preparation include learning styles and the four-step cycle of instruction, and delight-directed studying, while using utensils such as living books and the Internet.

This book includes recipes for creating your own unit studies, and also gives you the options of saving time by using a prepared unit study. The Heart of Wisdom teaching approach includes a four-year plan, which is to be repeated three times for a 12-year plan. If you decide to use the Heart of Wisdom teaching approach, you can utilize Heart of Wisdom unit studies or create your own unit studies using and/or adapting the recipes provided.

Planning Your Meals

If you use these recipes, you will need to add side dishes of your choice (math, phonics, foreign language, and other electives), based on your preferences, to create a complete meal. Each student has a wide diversity of strengths, weaknesses, ambitions, and goals. I provide enough direction so you know what’s essential to keep the recipes from failing, but I also give you enough room to let you discover for yourself the best balance of ingredients for your family.

As you learn about this approach, remember that your family cannot thrive on menus, recipes, or analyses of the food—you must spend the time preparing the dishes that will feed your family. When you do this, as long as you don’t leave out the main ingredient—the Bible—your outcome will be a success.

This book begins by preparing the teacher to lean on God for direction. The first chapter compares Israel’s Exodus from Egypt with homeschoolers leaving public school. The author explains, just as many Egypt beliefs remained in Israelites various public education beliefs remain in homeschoolers. Therefore, a reexamination of education choices is needed to bring us into the Promise Land. You are encouraged to let God take charge of your child’s education –by seeking and leaning on Him!

Of all the books I have read on homeschooling this book is a 5 star! plus.

I used Robin’s new book to introduce my son to the approach and also to help me to use the HOW Approach. I am writting my own lessons using the HOW approach as my son has hearing lost and I am deaf (oral/verbal), I also use hearing aids and have limited hearing.

You will not be disappointed with the book. The book has really help me in improving the way I teach and also what I teach and how not to worry about when my son learns something. Just because He doesn’t learn something in 2nd grade, doesn’t mean he can’t do it in 3rd grade. Most schools here in Indiana teach the state history (reguired) in the 4th grade. I don’t have to do it in his 4 grade year, but can do it now or when he is in 5 or 6 or 7 th grades. As longs as he does do it.

All I do is help him learn and let him learn at his pace and when he is ready for something, he does it with delight! Our homeschool experience is much better and most of all I am not burned out as I was last year. I am even experience much delight in our lessons and have learned a few things myself.

It’s here! It’s here! Thank you Homeschool- Books and Robin! I’ve only gotten through the 8th chapter of the Ebook so far, but it’s the best book I’ve read so far, other than the Scriptures, of course.

I am so very excited to get this book! I’ve had this continual feeling that there just wasn’t enough focus on the word or that it was just tacked on for a few minutes each morning. This book will help me accomplish the goal of Christ being the central focus of all we do in our homeschool and life. This is the first “how-to” that I will be able to pass to skeptical relatives and say, “Here is my philosphy on education”. Thank you, Robin, for putting into words what I have needed for so long!

I enjoyed reading the sample pages, but I am so looking forward to the book. I cannot wait for some encouragement–which I know I will find in this book. I have recently been thinkng that homeschooling is getting too tough. I am reminded by thinking of Moses that God called me to homeschool–not just until it got tough, but until he leads me down another path.

Second that — love the samples!
Actually, I’m very glad that more of the wisdom you have to share will soon be available. It isn’t easy to leave Egypt and go boldly into the Promised Land, but that is what the Lord would have for us, after all, what He told Joshua applies to us as well, “Be strong and of good courage … for I am with you!” Your work helps me to remember that truth.

Thank you for your encouraging sample pages. It’s been really hard homeschooling my 5 children and I know the Lord has put it on my heart two years ago to do this and I haven’t been doing well with this. I have been using textbooks and the kids think its too hard and boring and dont want to do it. My dad gave me this book called”Things we wish we’d known” and I had it since Dec. but just read it a month ago.I I read your article in it and I loved it! I looked up your website on heart of wisdom and teared up because this is what I have been looking for.Praise the Lord! Now this is my answered prayer. This is perfect for all my children to enjoy and have fun.

EVERY homeschool parent should read this book. I have been reading this very slowly. There is so much information my Bible is right next to me when I read this book. I was even reading some of it to my children. I know I will be reading this a second time. I would love for my children to read parts of it.

This book will encourage anyone looking into homeschooling or people who have been homeschooling and need some encouragement. Don’t miss this book. It was well worth the wait. I have been reading this after my morning Bible reading before the children wake up. By doing this it is allowing me to stay focused on the Lord and giving me the motorvation I need to teach and serve the Lord.

This is the BEST book I have read in my 15 years of homeschooling. This book takes a hard (but is a good way) look at the way we need to teach our children. That we need to train them for the LORD not train them for the WORLD.

Thank you, this book came at just the right time in my homeschooling jouney. May God richly bless you and your family.

I just purchased this book at a homeschool convention at the beginning of June. It is exactly the tool we need for our family right now!

This book is a must-read for Christian homeschool teachers. With dedicated prayer and insight, Robin Sampson has created a new approach to teaching that filters every subject through the Bible. The framework she provides at first seems complex, but after immersing yourself in it for a few days it becomes very clear and logical. I am so excited about this new school year and I am certain I will learn as much as my kids. That’s one of the best things about this approach. It is applicable to you as well as to your students. It allows lots of room for creativity with options for scrapbooking, drawing, writing and anything else that can be documented for a portfolio. Even instituting a portion of the suggestions made in this book will revitalize your Christian homeschool and alleviate burnout for you, the teacher.

If I had to choose only one homeschooling book, HOWTA would be the one! Amazing, stupendous work by Robin Sampson! I can’t believe I’m so blessed to have found what I will use for the rest of my homeschool years this early on! I was homeschooled growing up, and worked in a homeschool bookstore. I’ve seen it all, and THIS is what it’s all about. The resource section alone is worth its weight in gold. I can’t possibly recommend it highly enough!!!

I say WOW after reading HOW. I feel blessed to have stumbled across this book because for me it has been a prayer answered. I found it while looking for information on how to apply the Charlotte Mason teaching method.
I withdrew my son from school and started home-schooling him with little warning and no planning. Although I knew this was the right decision it left me in a difficult possition. I either had time to reaserch how and what to teach him or to teach him but not both at the same time.
The HOWTA has given me a frame on which to mount the canvas of our home-schooling. There are many great points about this method but there are two in particular which I love. The first is that is has such a sound biblical base – which is something which is so important to both myself and my son. This really shows through in all subjects. The other really wonderful thing is that I am inclined to go for a delight driven approach but sometimes lack confidence in this as it has no structure and is very difficult to plan round or collect resources for in advance. The HOWTA has given me the confidence that I lacked because it shows how to follow the delight driven path while being within a structure. And because it is a biblical structure I feel comfortable and secure using it. I have since purchased other items by Robin Sampson and was not disappointed and I plan to buy more as our home-school journey progresses.

WOW! what a relief… THE SOLUTION is here.
I am so relieved to have found this book. The most important key to a childs growth and success in this world is how to obtain and walk in wisdom. This book clearly defines what true wisdom is and where to find it as well as how to teach it. Robin Sampson has done and incredible job in answering all of a mom’s concerns about education today. I am overjoyed to have this book as a tool to guide me as I help my children discover their hearts of wisdom. Every parent should read this book.

Quite unlike many other books I’ve read, Mrs. Sampson consistently encourages her readers to have God direct their home education efforts not the state, friends, family, etc. After reading this book, I’ve lost those nasty “first time” home education jitters and feel confirmed in my calling to educate my child with a focus on training her in the way GOD would have her go.

This is the second book I’ve purchased from Heart of Wisdom and I highly recommend this author. The first was the equally excellent “What your child needs to know when…” With God as our “principal”, I am confident that we are in good hands!

WOW! I am sooo excited about using HOW this year. At the end of spring I began praying about what the Lrod would have me use for curr. this year. I was throughly researching the Veritas Press and HOW; after reading all I could about veritas and the HOW book, I have a firm conviction that the Lord wants us to use the HOW for our family from now on! I have throughly enjoyed all the knowledge and wisdom that I have gleened from reading Sections 1 and 2 about rethinking christian education. It has really been a blessing to be challenged to think about the methods by which we educate our children. I truly desire to pull away from the greek and secular worlviews of teaching and to embrace a more Hebriatic way of educating. There is so much to learn and I know that Robin Sampson has worked very hard to create such a through rescource; but I am very anxious to begin learning with my children all the things that I was not taught in my education; wisdom!!!!!!! A must read for any homeschool parent!!!!!!!!!

While reading this book I kept telling myself, “This is what I wanted/hoped for when I started Homeschooling!”. I am so glad I have found it now. I love the 4 Mat system and Robin’s use of it in her unit studies. She goes into detail of how you can use her unit studies, make your own, or implement somone else’s. It fits everyones needs who wants a biblical based education for their children. Even if you don’t want a biblical based education it goes in depth of how to create a unit study of an area where your child shows delight (good example of a horse study). If you are new to homeschooling it helps support your decision and gives resources for you to use that have taken veteran homeschoolers years to discover. It gives you the best of the best!

This book is a gem! After homeschooling for six years I was needing a new focus. HOW is it! Unlike many books on the subject this is invaluable to both the new and the seasoned homeschool family. It energized us and gave the Biblical focus that we were searching for all along. Robin’s writing style helps explain her approach to unit studies as well as the Hebraic method in a conversational way. It makes you feel like your having tea with a friend! Her reasoning is solid and her explanations clear. This is a must read for those looking at unit studies for the first time, those needing a jolt of the Spirit in their lessons, or those just wanting a change. It’s definitely at DELIGHT!

The first goal of each unit study is to inspire students to become “hearers and doers” of God’s Word and to encourage them to search the Scriptures and apply them to everyday situations. The second goal is to teach students a love of learning that will last a lifetime. These studies are organized yet flexible to work for all families using the unique 4-Step approach.
